My Lord, after Iginla we're in a Todd Simpson category aren't we. Beyond Iggy this team is void of leadership. Top teams have two or three guys that you can look to and say yah, he'd be captain next.

The Flames?

Curtis Glencross. Ugh.

If they do their GM should be fired. Trading a recent Hart and Richard trophy winner for a 35 year old declining winger is horrible asset management.

My vote is also for Glencross, while he may seem quiet most of the time, I have a gut feeling there's captain material in him.

I think it'll be either Bouwmeester or Giordano, whoever isn't traded.

It is sad when the most palatable answer to the question is nobody.

Glencross has forgotten what got him where he is and is lazy without the puck.
Bouwmeester, you just have to look at how he folds down the stretch, or the LA Brown goal and empty net gift to realize he is not your guy.
Gio has lost his offensive touch and physical game and doesn't block shots.

Tough to hand the captaincy to guys who are inconsistent, inattentive, soft, or regressing.

Cammalleri and Tanguay at least have been game changers at some time, important guys on successful teams, and are intelligent.

But still, even with the 'strip Iggy' nonsense, there is nobody else who has been consistently good year in and year out, or jumps out as a leader or gamebreaker now. Ouch.

I don't think our future captain is even playing on the team yet. It's going to take a year or 2.

Is Wideman captain material?

It's funny when people used to say we need to put the C on someone else. Now when posed with the question WHO that could be, everyones like, "lol idk bro he's not here yet".

I hope the next flames captain isn't named captain because he has the best offensive statistics.

If Sarich could play a shift, he'd be a candidate.

All the players who could have been captain in previous years have been traded.

Phaneuf and Regehr are the immediate examples that come to mind.

Cammalleri or Wideman seem like good candidates but really...nobody ideal jumps to mind. Maybe Sarich would be the best for the role if he had a regular playing role with the team.

You facetious little monkey, you know darn well I wasn't even suggesting it came down to whoever put up the most points.

Top teams, winners, tend to have top players and top offensive (or defense) players as their leaders. It's not the muckers, it's not the grinders, it's not Todd Simpson's or Cory Sarich's of the world.

You have exceptions, like there are to any rule. Scott Stevens wasn't a top offensive player (at the time) but elite players in their positions tend to be captains.

But you knew all this.

^^ Elite?

Dustin Brown, Brenden Morrow, Shane Doan, Bryce Salvador, Andrew Ladd...

Generally consistency and compete in those examples

I wasn't every trying to insinuate that you were, just that, I hope they don't stick it on Baert or Brodie or Backlund or Hudler or whatever.

Rotate it until you get a player specifically to be captain. Whether ti's a 18 year old landeskog clone or a 37 year old Dave Lowry clone.

Reason being that Cammy is not a leader, he had problems in Montreal and in LA. The guy is a decent hockey player but not Captain material, lets be honest.

Tanguay?? Jesus. No. He is soft as puppy shiat

Then we come to Giordano, and all I see is a terrible defenceman with too many minutes. I don't care what he did or how he played, this season has been a huge bust. Not physical, and give away after give away. He can't even make a breakout pass when his wingers are open.

Glencross is not a leader either, he has a bad attitude and is selfish. He can sure play when he wants to though, but im not giving him the C.

My pick to lead this team would be Jay B. He has never played on a playoff team. He is thriving under Bob Hartley however, and is playing absolutely stand out defence. The guy logs close to 30 minutes a game and is putting up points this year like he can. Class act, and the NHLs current iron man. He has potential to lead a team.

Also, anyone who said Sven, snap out of it. The guy is not captain material, he is not even NHL material yet. Everyone needs to tame their Sven boner. Its not happening right now for him in the NHL, and not for a while, if ever.
You trash every single suggestion and then suggest Jay Bouwmeester... lol

Cammy is a heart and soul player, he takes the game very seriously, with his fitness and conditioning, he hates losing more than most and he works his ass to his fullest every shift.

Yes Bouwmeester has been awesome... for 25 or so games out of over 3 seasons of playing here.

You don't think Tanguay, Giordano or Cammy should have the C, but please tell us, how does playing 30 minutes a night and being the current Iron Man make him more deserving than those 3

Hopefully Bouwmeester is traded minutes after Iginla.
