So I have a wide open basement, that I am planning on finishing here soon... One room is planned to be our theatre room... I am looking for a decent sound system that's not gonna cost an arm and a leg.
My basement plan is here...
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...&postcount=235
My roof is going to be a drop ceiling, but I need a plan so I can pre-wire in the speakers...I'm not an audiophile, so ill be happy with "decent"
Also gonna go projector and screen if that makes a difference.

For a sub... Would this work?
Buy like 4-8 of the mono price in wall 10" subwoofer
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
And build them into the riser for a second row of seating in the "theatre"
Edit.. Should add I have experience doing car stereos and live sound reinforcement.. I have seriously considered putting a DJ system in my theatre... But I have pretty decent knowledge of ohms, and watts etc. just no idea of what's good bang for the buck home theatre stuff.

Stang do you have the means of powering 4-8 passive subwoofers?

Your projection room is long but narrow which is not a big deal even if it is not ideal. The room is not closed off and has a rather big 7'10" opening. If you project to the 12"1' wall, perhaps, light control is not a big issue but you'll have to take a closer look to see.
All in all, I don't see too much problem with your projector room, just paint it darker colour and you should get good result from it.

The window in that room is pretty small. Even during the day it can be pretty dark down there. Plus ill use room darkening blinds. And yes I was planning on having it on the 12'1" wall.

I bought a LG 47LM7600 set from Future Shop and am having horrible judder while watching live sports.
I use Telus Optik for my cable source and it tells me that the input is 720p at 60hz.
I have used the settings I found on the internet (used the same ones done on the Cnet picture test) but it's not helping the situation.
I didn't have judder with my 5 year old 40" Samsung LCD.
What gives? Is this a faulty set? or is the issue Telus?

I have used all of the TruMotion presets as well as some user defined settings that were posted on cnet.
I'm still getting judder regardless of what setting is being used.

Are you having issues when using another source such as a bluray etc? Is the Optik TV box the same one you used for your old TV? It may need to be updated to your current TV settings, such as 1080p etc? I would start with another source to rule out your TV.
Also, try asking in http://www.avsforum.com as there are probably owners of the same TV who would have some input.

What sources are you using to see the judder? With Blu Ray player if you set it to 24hz, judder shouldn't be an issue. With cable STB, it might be different, you have to try with different output to see which one gives you the less judder. Sometimes 1080i gives you judder while 720p won't.

I have been reading the AVS forum for my tv. The learning curve is pretty steep and wanted to ask around on Calgary Puck before I post something completely noobish there.
I am using the same Optik TV box on the new TV as was being used on the old one.

I have switched the input resolution to 1080i and was not impressed with the picture quality and went back to 720p. I have used my PS3 and did not notice any judder while playing that. I will pop in a Blu Ray tonight and see if I can induce judder by playing with the settings.

Telus Optik is 720p only, IIRC. That's why 1080i looks worse than 720p.

Optik is both 1080i and 720p, it s dependant on the TV station.

I like pioneer. Don't know where in Calgary you would buy though.

That Pioneer is only 90watt x 7 channels.
The Denon comes with Audyssey MultEQ XT and can EQ the subwoofer, whereas the MCACC that the Pioneer uses doesn't have that same capability.

Being an Onkyo user who recently moved up to 1010 I would strongly suggest Audyssey as a must have. (I believe it starts on the 600 models)
I was running a 515 previously and although it was a great amp the SQ difference and overall punch in my system from stepping up to an Audyssey receiver is night and day.

Out of curiosity, what would be the point of EQ'ing the sub? Are LFE effects recorded with different levels at different frequencies? Could a person actually tell the difference in levels beween 0-80 HZ?
