There will always be questionable moves made during the course of rebuilding with the benefit of hindsight.

I am not overly concerned with trying to evaluate every move he has made - some things are going to work out, others aren't (though I never liked the Kessel fiasco from the getgo).
What I would be more concerned about (especially if we are talking president as opposed to GM) is what is his vision? Can he bring stability and direction to the organization? Is his persona too big and abrasive for this market? Who would he bring in to surround himself with?

Even the Kessel trade, for all its warts, was not a terrible move. He thought at worst he was giving up two picks in the 8-12 range (which is where Hamilton was picked). And Phil Kessel has outscored Seguin every single year he has been in the league. He probably wins that trade if the Bruins had picked in the 8-12 spot in the 2010 draft.

The Kessel deal stank of hubris and guy believing his own hype a little too much. Nothing like a good shot of humility to put your head back in the game. If anything I'm glad he made that crucial mistake with them, a mistake he wont soon repeat.

What exactly is the rumour? I read back 5 pages and didn't see anything.
Can someone give a re-cap?

Burke also has an axe to grind with our most hated rivals in the Canucks and Oilers and also a team that most Flames fans hate in the Leafs.
I think it would be fun and entertaining with him running the ship. He basically built two good teams in the Canucks and Leafs and guided a good team to a Stanley Cup on Anaheim.
The track record speaks for itself.

You're right. My comment was more in line with stopping the Flames from getting fleeced in any potential deal.

Someone started a thread that Burke was in town to interview for the President's job that the mods locked to review ( http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=125687). No update on the validity of the source of the rumour since yesterday.

For once, I'd like the Flames to go with someone who is both:
A) Chosen from several candidates, all of whom are outside the organization
B) Forward-looking and innovative, rather than old-fashioned and truculent

I'm still not positive Feaster can't do what we all want him to. I'll be on the "fire him" bandwagon if we don't start moving players out this deadline, but I just can't imagine a scenario this season where that won't happen given where we are in the standings.
I wonder if many people here will change their opinion of Feaster if he actually does embark on a rebuild?
I'm still willing to give the guy some leeway given the craptastic situation we were in when he took over and the way he has drafted thus far in his tenure.

Carlyle got the team to play the game his way. Not to mention Kadri finally showing up being the player Burke thought he was when he drafted him.
Burke did some real good things in T.O along with two or three really suspect thing as well. Komisariks deal, Grabovski's contract, Kessel's trade.

I'll take a shot in the dark and say that rumour is bogus. Burke is a pro scout for the Ducks. Of course he'll be seen in town. It's his job to scout the Flames.

I'm pretty sure Feasters probably needs to get 3 or more signatures before any trade goes thru for the foreseable future. The vultures are circling .
He was put in an impossible situation given his mandate and I bet this might be his last job in the "show"
Burke would give this team instant credibility and make allot of people in both the Flames organization and the NHL sit up straight.
I bet he would work even harder to prove Toronto wrong. I would welcome him with open arms.

still, I wouldn't call them a good team yet, they had the same record last year and totally choked...lucky for them this is a short season. The jury is still out but I wouldn't say he built a good team in TO...they have been so bad for so long they are bound to have a few decent players.

The original rumour is more specific than just him being spotted in town, though. Probably still bogus, but the poster was much more precise than simply saying he spotted Burke in town.

Eric Francis and Vicki Hall are doing their best to make sure we're not buyers. I'm still worried that there may be a few people in the front office who believe we're still in it this year.
