Awesome move. Would rather see something like this than a wrist shot to the pads.

Lame.

I don't see how you can outlaw it though either.

I know they relaxed the "forward movement" rule, but is that even legal? He pulled the puck way back within the spin.

Also, I'm pretty sure we saw something like this during All-Star not too many years ago.

Sens fans on the radio sound pretty upset about it today. They figure that with the game on the line you better be able to guarantee a goal if you're pulling that kind of move off, and I can agree with that.

Although, I have to like anything that makes a farce of the shootout. Maybe it will be eliminated at some point....

All the goalie had to do was get his toe down at the post, once he started his spin, that was really the only place the puck could potentially cross the line.

I have no problems with the move, it's just not going to score very often in the NHL.

It was a disgrace to the game.

Next, players will lift it onto their stick and carry it in like lacrosse (as someone described it) and just ram it into the net like a jouster.

Then what?

The game is hockey. If you want to do shat like this, stick to video games

i don't get the beef the guy is getting.

He scores and he's a hero. Great stop by Rask.

Wish we saw more creativity like this. With the game on the line, would fans prefer he tried the standard wrist shot into the pads/glove, or the forehand/backhand standard deke we see so often.

For a league who wants more skill, amazed at the pitchforks for a guy who is showcasing skill and creativity.

I thought it was great. Good save by Rask, too.

It was creative I give him credit for having the stones on trying to pull that off and he did come close.

Disgrace to the game? Holy hyperbole. It's not like he pick the puck up with his glove and try to throw it in.

He still almost scored. The goalie had to make a great save with his toe right at the goalline. So it wasn't like he made a complete fool of himself.

When you have a penalty shot competition like this, players are going to try different things to unsettle the goaltender as a way to score.

The only reason the save by Rask was good was because he was being interfered with. He knew exactly where the puck was going to be. If not for the interference, he could have closed his eyes, stuck out his pad, and made the save.

Because of the contact with the goalie, this shouldn't have counted even if he did manage to get the puck in the net. However, that's a separate issue to the move - he could easily have done the move without interfering.

I don't have any problems with the move, however, with this particular move, its more style than substance. Intentionally limiting yourself to be unable to lift the puck in the air isn't going to let you score many goals in an NHL shootout, as I said in my previous post.

Yes, and that is my point. The SO is only going to get more and more gimmicky. It is a disgrace to a beautiful game but as someone posted above, hopefully seeing this getting more gimmicky will prompt the league to get rid of the SO.

But I doubt it.

oh no, a player tried to be inventive with the puck. he should have dumped it in and tried to get the rebound of the back boards.

Hated it, that's a move you try while drinking beers at the odr with your buddies.

The shootout is a skills exhibition, I have no problem with this or any other trick/gimmick shots. It's what the shootout is for.

That being said, I hate that points are awarded based off a skill exhibition.

Don't mind the move, but last laugh for the Bruins as Rask stopped it.

Yes, because shooting it in the corner is the only other option available here. Solid argument.

It would have likely had the same chance of scoring.

It was a stupid move because it had such a low chance of scoring and isn't really inventive or creative its just stupid.

People can whine about guys coming in and shooting but at least that gives you a chance to score some times.

Had it worked there would have been no complaint. I have no problem with guys trying different things on the shoot out. You opinion is it isn't inventive of creative, but how many times have you seen it done before.
It didn't work, fine. You should only be getting up in arms if it is his go to move everytime, and everytime the result is the same. If the player learns that the move didn't/doesn't work he won't do it again. Creativity is needed in the game.
