Clearly there will be no contract in the near future - no other reason for the Flames to announce a gag order.

It's quite possible that Iginla wants to wait and see how the team does this year. If they are in playoff contention by the deadline, he re-signs with Calgary. If they are a bottom-feeder by the deadline, he does not re-sign, and decides to waive his NMC.
I would think Feaster would be okay with this as well. They don't need the media hounding Jarome on this issue all season long.

Fine. But the whole point of this thread is to discuss whether Iginla wants to remain a Flame. The "wait and see" attitude you describe, is hardly a ringing endorsement of this team by its star player.
i've simply been suggesting the view that if he was going to sign a contract extension - he'd do it now because both he and the flames know this would be best for the sake of the team and avoiding the media circus.
My view is that his "wait and see" is a nice way of saying "see ya".

Did you somehow read this part as "make outlandish, nonsensical statements designed to get a rise out of Flames fans" ?
If so, then A-. You lost points for ignoring reality, and trying to use speculation as a hard line fact.

The outlandish and nonsensical thoughts written here are those that suggest a player of Iginla's calibre and accomplishment would want to play the last few years of his brilliant career with the hodge-podge collection of veterans and pluggers with a light sprinkling of newbie potential stars that is now called the Calgary Flames.
I hope the Flames make the playoffs with Iginla leading the charge, so he can leave on a high note and a proper farewell.

And again, this tripe. Okay, let's play it your way.
Yakupov has been reluctant to speak to the media, making them wait upwards of an hour. This screams to me he dreads answering questions about how excited he is about playing in edmonton because Obviously, he doesn't want to play there.
So it's plain to see that he see's an organization that has been run into the ground, and he has seen FA after FA turn down offers from the city, and has heard all the stories about Coaches telling their players to shape up or they will be shipped to The oilers.
Obviously, he would much rather play for a team that will be going places. So he is hoping they take the prudent steps to trade him for Trouba.
I hope the oilers continue to win the oiler cup for 3 or 4 more years, so that they can have so many first overall picks it makes Yak redundant, and he gets his wish to play for a real NHL team.

Saying Iginla wants to see how things go this year doesn't change anything. Iginla knows in his heart this team this year won't win the cup and the same goes with next years'.

I've never actually met one of Iggy's close personal friends! What else did he tell you?

My heart broke when Fleury was traded.
If Iggy gets traded I will need CPR and possibly 6 buddies to carry my casket.
He should retire a flame as long as he wants to

As each game passes and sitting in 15th place in the West, it is now extremely unlikely Iginla wants to remain a Flame. Good thing he didn't sign a contract extension here - despite that the Flames have almost certainly offered one.
i'd like to think he will be traded and i would think he has, or will soon, give his consent to a list of teams - but i have my doubts the Flames will do it. Better to make him look like the bad guy on this one by leaving as a UFA. Its the only sensible business move they have left.

We don't know jack squat where the Flames are at with Iggy. The most sensible business solution left to do is what's best for the Flames and not for Mr. Iginla.

I'm going to get slammed here, but I hope he does what's best for the team if he likes being a Flame that much.
Take a rental trade for three months with the Bruins or Pens and come right back in July.

my answer to your question is, i believe the Flames is a classy organization (from many on record opinions). If Jarome ever initiates a trade, the Flames should grant it.
There is also a poll thread that may fit your opinions.

how can you expect iggy to remain as a depth scorer?
