Maybe. It is two tweets of an interview. Tough to come to any conclusion. But you have to admit this isn't how Baertschi or any of us pictured his first NHL season. And you also have to admit those quotes contrast his normal up beat attitude.

Regardless, my virtual panties are unknotted if that is what you are worried about!

Maybe, but I'm 99% sure he'll be fine, he's got the right attitude for it. I was never worried over his " confidence issues".

Confidence issues? People, people. He talked to Hartley. He probably gave him the confidence boost he needed. Sven didn't say "I feel like I won't score", he said, "I can't score". He knows he has the skill, just needs to apply it properly. And he will. Some more time in the AHL is definitely the right thing for him.

Smartest thing to do is trade him while he has value.

This team really needs Begin and Mcgrattan silly Flame fans. They're the key to the present and future.

Nobody will ever run our goalie again!

2 spots wasted on terrible players instead of developing our prospects.

Begin and McGrattan are role players fulfilling 4th line energy/tough guy roles. Do you insert Sven into either of their places?

Looks like me and Puckluck2 are singing off the same songsheet.

Begin is the biggest Patronage signing I have ever seen on this team. The Coaching staff has some history with him or atleast know him. Begin didnt have a very good camp at all.

And that says alot considering our Former GM Signed and played his son, who at best is a 4th line AHL Player.

Sven isn't our only prospect. Plenty of our AHLers can be as useless as Begin and Mcgrattan.

Damn, dude needs a hug.

I really hope he can find his way in the AHL and come back before the season ends. He definitely takes everything to heart.

He'll be fine. He has showcased the skill before and is still at a very young age. Adversity will help him grow into being a (hopeful) great player.

Yikes, he definitely doesn't sound happy.

It is just what he needs though - a wake-up call that he doesn't have immunity and needs more playing time.

Time to man up Baertschi, and prove to the coaches you didn't deserve the demotion.

i think this has been poor handling of the franchises most important piece.

enthusiastic kid, who needs playing time to grow, not 5 mins a game. i really think he is the type of prospect u just have to put out there and he will figure things out.

Yeah, I would've loved to see him just get one really good, honest shot playing on the 1st line at the beginning of the season. He was really raring to go at the start, and you could just see his confidence drop game after game when he didn't get the chance. I didn't think he was going to be some 20 goal scorer this year, but man, I think we missed a chance by not giving him this shot early. He played really well in those early game shifts, just never got the minutes to get any results.

I like Hartley so far, but I think he screwed the pootch a bit and mishandled Baertschi to start the season. By the time he got some minutes after his injury, it was too late. Yes, he needs to get stronger and mentally tougher too, but he seems like a guy who is extremely passionate, and I would've loved to see that being taken advantage of.

Sort of the same storyline as what happened in Toronto with Kadri - Any kid with some skill will feel pretty bummed about not making it on the first try.

That said, some time in the AHL did Kadri and Brodie wonders, and it should do the same for Baertschi. At least Calgary isn't putting pictures like this up in the news based on Baertschi being bummed about the demotion:

I think he needs to grow period...either that or learn to play to his size at this level. He was getting pushed around and didn't know how to deal with it....hence AHL

IMO of course.

Possibly. But to play devils advocate was this a development decision or a hockey decision?

Showing patience in a prospect and letting them know that they don't have to worry about a pit opening up underneath them isn't a bad approach either.

Rumors of scratches, demotion to the fourth line at a time he was playing well, an eventual scratch, and now a demotion. Getting no PP time regardless of play as the veterans are given time to find their game. The GM confusing the issue with his 'the upset special' comments that put even more pressure on him that he should be on the Flames. This with only 10-games played.

If the Flames weren't loaded with veterans and had development of our top prospects as the primary focus would Baertschi be demoted? Is Hartley the right coach for our prospects? If the answer is yes then okay. I am fine with him going down. If the answer is no I am not. We are in 15 overall and he is our only AAA prospect. The focus needs to be on his development.

It's all part of the process and he now knows what he has to do to get back to the NHL. My only issue is the way Hartley kind of handled him by benching him the moment he had a bad shift or two. When the young players know that if they mess up they will have their ice time reduced or spend time in the press box they stop playing the way that got them in the NHL in the first place. That kills confidence and a good coach should know not to pull the rug out too early.
