Of course. Which Flames fan didn't see that coming? Maybe some were reluctant to have him play in the top 4 but he was clearly a top 6 defenseman for the Flames under any circumstances. Yet Hartley felt he should be benched in favour of Butler, Sarich and Smith that first game? Sven will prove the Flames wrong. Whether it's in a Flames uniform or in a uniform on another team.

Martin St. Louis was too small for the Flames too (according to the Flames) and they criticized him for getting out muscled. After toiling in the Flames Farm system, he ended up winning the Art Ross Trophy and winning a Stanley Cup against the same team that discarded him like an old shoe.

About time Backlund was playing up to his billing before the injury lets just hope he gets into the swing of things quick. With all the rumours of Pits wanting Iginla the talk of Sutter being mentioned in the mix a Sutter/ Backlund one two punch is a nice start up the middle. Sven needs some top 6 sending him down was a good call.

Sven Baertschi is 20 years old.

Not concerned, he'll be back sooner than later.

At very very least, even if there is nothing on the major scale, and no matter where the Flames are in the standings leading up to April 3, Feaster should make couple minor moves with the sole intent to give the Flames flexibility, and shipping out contracts, if nothing else, for picks, which should free up a spot or two on what is today's current roster.

If every player who had a disappointing rookie season with the Flames went on to be Art Ross winners, nearly ever first round pick the Flames have had in the last decade except Phaneuf should have the trophy.

St. Louis and Baertschi aren't really comparable. Baertschi had a disappointing start, I suppose, but nearly everyone should still have high hopes for him as a highly touted first round pick and he just needs some more time to develop. St. Louis faltered in his attempt with the Flames and he was already a huge question mark that no other team even bothered with, both before and after he went undrafted. Of course we know how he turned out but really went through a completely different path than Baertschi is taking.

Good move. Sven lacking confidence - trying too hard to do something with the limited ice-time he's been getting lately. Nothing wrong with giving him some time in Abby to find his game.

The only time I have heard Sutter's name mentioned outside of homer Flames proposals is followed or preceeded by the phrase no way Pittsburgh trades him.

The reason Sven is sent down is because this team is far too deep on the wings for him to fit. It isn't because management lacks confidence in him, not because he sucks, because with Backlund back, this team is as deep as its ever been and if he plays on the 4th line, we see nothing but lack of development. People are acting as if we're not going to see him again. He'll be back as soon as someone is injured. There's just not a place where he'll get the development he needs up here.

Taking this off topic, St. Louis has credited the Flames for being the only NHL team team to take a chance on him and, his time here in the role he was in, also helping him become a better overall NHL player, which ultimately kept him in the league.

I kind of feel sorry for Sven. He was so over hyped, because of his outstanding performance last year, that it must have been a huge burden for him to try and repeat it...especially with his slow, cautious introduction, his constant switching among line mates, and of course his injury.

I have no doubt he has all the tools to be a top 6 NHL player for many years, and hopefully he returns to us as soon as possible.
