Seems like a chain of issues would be affected by this.

I feel that a South-run North with American forces occupying the whole Korean peninsula would seriously jeopardize stability in the region.
From my understanding the Russians' still pay a significant amount of dollars for naval visitation rights to North Korea.

I also believe that Putin wrote off $11 billion in North Korean debt recently with the idea of gaining military influence in the North, with the rumor of more high tech weapons sales and Russian basing rights. So yes a collapse by the North would destabilize the region and hurt Russian influence.

I had a thought... What if they were trying to break America financially...would another war do it? NK cant be as crazy as they sound. It seems like the world economy is teetering on the brink, so..how would a bigass war affect that?

What does the average North Korean know about the rest of the world? Are they brainwashed into thinking that NK is a technologically advanced world power and everybody else is just living in the stone age? I just don't know where this bravado comes from, and why something that nearly every other first world country is capable of is given so much fanfare.

They believe that they are in far better shape then the rest of the world, and more importantly believe in a heavy dose of self reliance and the power of their leader to keep them safe.

Those who have a T.V. or radio can only get state broadcasts. When they go to school their teachers hide behind a bust of Kim the first so it feels like they are being taught by the divine leader himself.

Everything is controlled and handled. They might be hungry, they're told, but everyone outside of North Korea are starving.

Even though the Chinese saved their butt in the Korean War and pretty much feed the country, China is mentioned sparingly at best

I don't think you get it. That is an American B-52, your paper airplanes can't project power like these bad boys.

I just finished a pretty interesting book Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea

There is brainwashing, but not everyone is broken. Some just go with the flow because the alternative is a prison camp or starvation. Thousands of North Koreans escape/defect every year... so somebody in NK knows something or else they wouldn't have defected.

That's a great book. What's really odd if you read a lot of defector accounts is not very many of the defectors blame the Kim's for the starvation or poverty and still show devotion and love for the family.

It does take a long time to break through the indoctrination in their education system.
