This whole "rebuild" thing is just something that they sold to the fans. There is no actual "building" taking place. They just draft first overall and watch the ensuing results. Building requires using resources to put together a coherent team. If the Oilers were actually building something, they would have traded Hemsky at the trade deadline last year for defensive help instead of re-signing him to that awful contract. They would have traded down in the draft and taken a defensive prospect. They would have signed some players during the off-season to round out their bottom 6. Had they done those things, they would have most assuredly been better than they are now, but that requires having a plan and executing it. It seems like the only plan in place right now is draft the best player available in the draft and hope that everything magically comes together on the ice. How their management team has not been completely gutted is beyond me. That's the real blow-it-up that needs to occur.
They can't even do that right

It wasn't a rebuild, it was just celebrated sucking.
This reminded me of the reactions of the Oilers brass in that bar when TSN announced they got the first pick. All of that confetti and cheering. I remember the look on Hall's face like "why the hell are we celebrating that we suck?". That shot pretty much summed up how far the mighty have fallen.

I'm saying that they didn't burn it to the ground. Is Columbus perpetually "burning it to the ground" because they suck every year? No. This mass exodus of players that people like to say Edmonton had never actually happened. That's my point.
Except those silly edmontonians are so delusional that it isn't tough for them. they're happy as pigs in s$&! with their ahl all star team. "Special" oilers in deed. I just have to laugh whenever an oiler fan rags on the flames. We're no screaming hell but at least we're not be oilers!

Problem with the Oilers is that they have no good vets. If the Flames had 2 or 3 of these young stars on top of what we have now we'd be a contender. The Oilers are wasting ELC years of these guys. By the time they are good they will have to start trading them.
The sad part of all of this is that the Edmonton media is full of puppets, just like management. Nothing negative is written here about Katz and Tambellini,. The fans too have fallen into the propaganda of rebuilding. Katz really is the one who pisses me off the most, more than anyone in the organization. I'd rather have Harold Ballard here.

I would take Sequin 10 time out of 10 before I took Hall, I said it on draft day that drafting Hallover the TS was possibly one of the dumbest moves that Lowe made
I really wonder if all the sucking and losing will get to the young players on the Oilers, or are they OK with being horrible and never having to worry about being held accountable for it since they are something special??
I would be asking to be traded asap if I were someone like Hall.

I'm shocked none of them requested a trade. ####hole city, ####hole team, ####hole management. I know I would've by now.
