Congrats to the Wild.
Looks like the Flames had a first round hangover.
Busy weekend ahead, I will try to post a game report later.

Skunked! Wish I new why my lines keep getting so screwed up. Twice in the earlier games in rd 1 and now in this game. The injured Stumple playing on the 4th line for some reason and Clark Wilm sneaking into the lineup and Scaming a spot on the third line. Defence was all mixed up as well. o-well, i'll submit my lines again for game two and see what happens.
Wings gave up 8 powerplays to just 2 but still managed to outshoot the Oilers. Just couldnt solve Brodure.

Oil take series lead 1 – 0 over Wings

Martin Brodeur recorded his first shut out of the 2005/2006 play-off campaign. The Wings outshoot the Oil tonight 27 – 25 but could not solve Martin. The wings shot themselves in the foot tonight as hey gave the Oil eight straight power play opportunities. Shane Doan notched his 4th of the play-offs cashing in on one of those power plays at 15:30 o the first period. The Oil may not have scored on many of those opportunities, but it did leave Detroit with out any momentum straight through the game.

With no scoring in the second period the Oil went into a defensive shell, keeping the play away from the middle of the ice, and allowing Martin to get a good look at everything in our end. Its boring hockey as the second period only witnessed 14 shots total, and not many good scoring opportunities.

The third period had the Oil up by two goals and holding on to that lead, The wings fired twelve shots in the third and where starting to turn it on, when Patrice Bergeron broke them with a late goal at 18:58 ending any thoughts of a Red Wing comeback in game 1.

Goal Scoring

OILERS, LEETCH 1 (LECAVALIER), 04:54
OILERS, DOAN 4 (RACHUNEK, BERGERON) (PP), 15:30
OILERS, BERGERON 2 (ROBERTS, LECAVALIER), 18:58

Goalie Statistics
Mike Dunham (WIN), 22 saves out of 25 shots, L, 3-2-0
Martin Brodeur (OIL), 27 saves out of 27 shots, W, 5-0-0

Power Play Conversions
WINGS 0 for 2
OILERS 1 for 8

Game Stars

1 - Martin Brodeur (OIL)
2 - Vincent Lecavalier (OIL)
3 - Patrice Bergeron (OIL)

Game Notes:

Vinny Lecavalier (OIL)– 2 assists on the game.

Patrice Bergeron (OIL) –1 goal + 1 assist

M. LAPOINTE WIN (CROSS-CHECKING, Major) 12:07

Series remains in Mulletville for game 2.

Wild Draw First Blood

In the 2 years that GM Grant Farhall has been at the healm of the Wild organization the team has never one the first game of a playoff series.

So for once, it must be nice to enjoy a series lead, even if it could be a short one.

The Wild downed the Flames 5-2 on Friday night, to go up 1-0 in the series. The Wild were led by Mats Sundin's 2 goals and a 3 point effort by Daniel Sedin, while Curtis Joseph once again was strong in the nets.

Meanwhile GM Farhall was more happy to see Jason Spezza get on the board with his first post-season goal.

"We need Jason to get going and he looked good out there tonight. We expect game 2 to be much tougher though and we are going to have to be ready".

Dan Boyle had the other Wild goal, returning to the lineup after missing a single game to injury.
