As long as LA takes out Dallas, we could very well find ourselves in the 8th seed tomorrow. Assuming the Oilers and the Hawks win..

Man, I just can't believe how bad the Oilers are. I mean, it's kind of funny, but they're pretty much trending towards drafting Seth Jones now, which kind of sucks. Has a team ever drafted first overall 4 times in a row?

Either your math is poor, or you assume the Blues are going to blow their lead tonight

Couldn't resist going and reading some of the post game thread at the oilers board.
They are in full blown meltdown mode. We're talking take away their shoelaces and belts.

Sounds envious and cliché, but they're getting lucky. The got out shot badly again tonight and come away with a win

Yup, the Oilers are officially a complete gong show organization. If they end up with yet another lottery pick will Katz actually hang on to his BFF Kevin Lowe?

Not in the modern era but if any team has it in them to pull off such distinction it's the Edmonton Oilers. I wonder how long until they start dangling their top guys as trade bait as they need an infusion of grit, leadership and a complete top defensive pairing. Oh and a franchise goaltender wouldn't hurt as well.

I hope they keep Lowe and Tambellini. Those 2 guys are the major reason why the Oilers suck. If they get another top 3 pick to add to that roster, i would have to think if they got a GM that new what he was doing, they might be able to win some games.

Why fire one of the geniuses who is orchestrating the building of something special up there?
Not to mention, they sell out regularly and Oiler fans only need #1 overall draft picks to be happy - they don't need wins.

what has Tambellini done exactly?
they have gone through coaches, picked 1st overall 3 straight times, to me the Eberle pick at 23 or whatever is his only good move
you can make the argument that Seguin/Landeskog would be a much much muuuuuuuuuuuch better core to build around than Hall/RNH (too early to even have a quick reaction on last years draft with Yakupov)
The Blackhawks missed the playoffs in Toews/Kane's first season and won the cup with Toews/Kane in their 3rd NHL season (where Hall is now)
The Oilers aren't even close, they have drafted so poorly outside the 1st round that by the time the team is good they may all ready be where the Blackhawks were in 2010/11 when they had to blow up the team to stay under the cap because 5-6 guys (in the Oilers case 1st overall picks) end up taking up 50+% of the cap
no depth, no d, no goalies, no winning

Goaltending has been their strong suit this season with Dubnyk posting a .917 save percentage... and that is saying something considering they aren't that good defensively.

By that I mean between the Canucks and Flames. I hope the 'boring' Wild drop out of it. Stupid Wild.

The Canucks are very catchable right now. In this shortened season, every lost point is huge. A team like Vancouver should have a guaranteed two points against Columbus.

They went for the flash with Hall and RNH but I agree they would have been better off with Seguin and Landeskog as they would have been rock solid down the middle for years and could have supplemented wingers via free agency or trade. I'm not sure many teams would have picked Landeskog over RNH but he certainly has proven to be the more mature player with more leadership skills.

I agree he's actually been arguably their most consistent player but I still don't believe he's a franchise goaltender.

My assumption that the Blues were in the playoffs was incorrect. Man, this conference is tight.

Ralph Kruger after the Oilers game:
"We tried to get the 1-1 goal instead of continuing to play the good defense we were playing."
so Tambellini "builds" his team with purely offensive minded players, paying zero thought to defense or goaltending, then hires a coach that gets mad if his team even thinks about trying to score instead of playing the trap. mindboggling

Fwiw, Eberle was drafted 2 months before Tambellini came aboard. Lowe was still the GM when they drafted Eberle. So you could probably say the far majority of the moves Tambillini has made since then has been a complete and total failure (coaching choices, drafting, signing UFA's, etc).
All he really did was win the Schultz sweepstakes, which was sort of impressive since everyone tried to sign him, but who knows how much of an impact (if any) Tambellini had on that process. Schultz wanted top four minutes, on a team that didn't care if he played any real defense that would let him put up 50+ points a year, so he could cash in on his next contract.
Edit: Really the first major thing he was involved in was the Dany Heatley fiasco, and I think we all know how fun that was haha.
