Sounds like you guys all had a exciting weekend. Jones on waivers, Comeau on the 1st line? What the hell happened while I was gone?

Before Doan broke Jones' ankle, he was playing good hockey. He brought hustle, grit, and I personally really commend that as a fan. I like this guy on our squad. I agree with the majority, Jones being put on waivers instead of Comeau is insane.

Good. Adds nothing. Skates fast in circles but has no offence, doesn't hit..Comeau is next.

I actually think Comeau is being "showcased" for a trade. I could see some teams actually giving this guy a chance on a 4th line or a better team. Even if we get a 35th round pick (I know it doesn't go that far but if it did, that's what he'd be worth), it's worth it.

I doubt that he's being showcased as there isn't a market for a guy that is a borderline NHL talent. Like Jones he would pass through waivers unclaimed and any team that may trade for him would want to send a roster player in return which isn't what the Flames would be looking for as they likely want to unload a contract or two if possible.

In this day and age with so much scouting and video available, I wonder when the last time a player was truly "showcased" for a trade. It seems unlikely to me that it happens much anymore, if at all.

Cody Hogson. Not that i think anyone would actually be interested in Comeau.

That's true.
The only reason I say that is because the only reason I can think of for him being on the roster is to either show what he can do with guys like Iggy OR the coach is crazy.
There is no reason for him to be on the team yet Hartley still plays him. I'm not sure who's fault it is that he's on the team, but either Feaster needs to get rid of him or Hartley has to stop playing him

Good point.
Showcasing nowadays is sheltering a player and giving him the exact kind of situations he needs to succeed like how the Canucks showcased Hodgson. They played the long-game on Hodgson.

There was nothing in Jones game that seemed to indicate he was waiver wire material. Then again, we're a 14th placed team, so maybe everyone is waiver wire material.
Setting that aside - if every coach is coming to talk to you, that's... weird. "Attitude" doesn't seem to quite cover it.
Was there a rookie dinner recently? That was the last time I recall an off the rails situation leading to a player departure (Babchuck Sutter trade). Maybe he hazed our overage rookie or something.
Weird to not make a statement about it in a hockey microscope city like Calgary.

Besides the Hodgson example, there are guys like Comeau who have "done it before" who just might be able to show that he can perform in the right situation. A player who can step into an offensive role is valuable as a stop-gap measure. A lot of players can't perform if not given prime offensive opportunities and for those players, videos will only show how they perform in their limited playing time and role.

If the Flames have been trying to "showcase" Comeau, they are doing a decent job of it. The last two games have been his best of the year, which isn't saying much, but if he always plays the way he has been then he is at least equal to Jones in terms of ability.
Jones wasn't hitting, fighting, scoring, or getting under the skin of the opposition. How exactly did he expect to break into the league?

Cody Hodgson was showcased?
Nice job showcasing, they got a third liner, and a minor league defensman, for a 1st/2nd line center. Hodgson is flurishing on a first line with Vanek and Pominville, while Kassian can only score when set up by the Sedins.

This almost reminds me of the time Jason Morgan was put on waivers.

So how has Blair Jones looked in Abby? I don't watch the AHL but noticed he has 0 points in 5 games so far. Anything to read into that or not so much?

I don't get why people are still so upset about Comeau. He's a UFA after this season and likely won't be re-signed. Just be glad this is only a 48 game season instead of an 82 game season.
Blair Jones on the other hand still has one more year on his contract and would probably be on the team full time next year. 24 more games of Comeau, just deal with it.

Nah, don't read into it. He's been playing in every situation imaginable. He's hit posts, he's missed nets by inches, and goalies have made stupid ridiculous saves on him.
He's looked excellent though.

Feaster tried to sign Comeau for 2 years though, remember? It was Comeau that insisted on a 1-year deal.
If Feaster gets his way, Comeau will likely be back again.
