The NFL on Wednesday said it would investigate a report that at least one team at the scouting combine asked a draft prospect about his sexual orientation.

Colorado tight end Nick Kasa told ESPN Radio Denver on Tuesday that he was asked a series of questions that touched on sexual orientation at the just-completed combine in Indianapolis.

"[Teams] ask you like, 'Do you have a girlfriend?' 'Are you married?' 'Do you like girls?' " Kasa said in the radio interview. "Those kinds of things, and you know it was just kind of weird. But they would ask you with a straight face, and it's a pretty weird experience altogether."

In the statement announcing it would check into Kasa's claim, the NFL said "teams are expected to follow applicable federal, state and local employment laws."

So much for bad guy Flacco. In reality his deal is a three year deal that is cap friendly for $62 million (cap hit in the first three years: $6.8, $14.8, and $14.55 million), $54 million guaranteed . His cap number in year 4 makes you think a re-structured deal will be done at that point in time as he's cap number then is 29 MILLION DOLLARS! Not a chance in hell that happens.

Just like there was no chance Flacco was going to demand Drew Brees type money? Once again Flacco is in the 8-12 range of NFL QBs and he's paid as the best. If you're cool with that, then don't complain when Ellerbe and Krueger walk, because they will get much more on the open market than the Ravens will be able to offer them with Flacco now taking up way too much cap space.

Chiefs signed Dwayne Bowe to a 5 year contract and than franchised Brandon Albert. They also reached a deal with Dustin Colquitt too. So maybe they will try hard to fall back 2-3 places and take a guy like Warmack.

I think teams won't pay a big price to move up, but someone is always willing to jump ahead of someone else to get a player they really want. The new wage scale does make it so that high picks are not given out of line salaries.

Speaking of which....Tyson Jackson restructured his deal today. He was the poster boy of the old wage system. Okay lineman that the team can use but not an all pro. But under his old deal he was paid like a superstar because he was such a high pick and likely to be a cap casualty.

While I agree about that, I just don't think that there are those 2 or 3 outstanding talents near the top that teams are jockeying to get.

It seems like there are a bunch of solid players that most teams would be happy with, to the point that they may prefer player X over player Y, but not enough to trade what has traditionally been the going rate for movement in the early first round.

It isn't a contract cost of the first few slots, it is just that there aren't a whole lot of players that are that much superior to the rest that they would be worth moving up to get.

If the Chiefs wanted to give it away there would be takers, but I'm just not sure there is a lot of value to the pick.

Yeah, the price might end up being something like swap spots in round 1 and than get a 4th for a 5th type of thing. It depends on how bad a team like the Lions or Eagles like a guy like Joeckel over the other tackles and if they feel the need to make sure they get the player.

Certainly nothing like last year....mind you in last years draft the Chiefs are 100% keeping that pick and Alex Smith is still on the 49'ers.

In last year's draft there were 2 special talents at QB with teams willing to pay to get one of them and one team cutting an all-star QB because they knew they could get the other.

This year's crop of QBs is so bad that if those players were available this year there wouldn't have been a market for Alex Smith and he would probably have been cut.


As an aside, scouts miss on QBs fairly often. Often wonder how many of the 1st round busts are because teams reach for a QB, how much is because teams that need a QB are often pretty bad, or how many teams simply fail to recognize that it isn't the QB but the offence that is the issue? Kaepernick was the 6th QB taken, at a time when Alex Smith was widely considered a bust. Then a new coach and offensive scheme come in and Alex Smith looks like a star. Now Kaepernick comes in and he looks much better than many of the QBs who were taken before him. Did so many teams really misjudge Kaepernick or are there way more factors in picking a franchise QB than purely the talent of the QB.

I wonder if this year's QB crop might not have a diamond in the rough if he can end up in the correct situation.
