Target opening in Canada, why is this exciting?

Agreed. We haven't been to a Zellers in years, but we are at target fairly regularly. I can see the similarity, but one is executed so much better it is a very different experience.

^^^Well there is more to it then that, stock levels and variety at Shoppers and Rexall are very poor. Try finding a therapeutic device for a sore knee or elbow, you'll have to go to a physio to get what you can get in the aisles at Wallgreens. In fact there were 15-20 different kinds!

The fact is that pharmacies in Calgary are very poorly stocked and its a problem. With regards to prices, another competitor is always good for the consumer and that may also bring down the outrageous dispensing fee that is not covered by insurance.

I remember walking into a Target a few years back and thought "Wow this is what a Zellers should be looking like". It was clean, organized, have a wide variety of products, exactly what you expect from a department store. I'm to young to really remember companies like Woolworth or Wolco to compare.
For those saying we are getting Zellers with a new name, its Zellers who tried to copy the Target brand.

Also, pricing, you have to expect products that are brought up to Canada are going to be more expensive than shopping in the states. That's just a fact us Canadians should be use to. I'd be willing to pay the extra dollars to shop in a clean, organized and correctly price labelled store.

They also are bringing some of their in-house brands to Canada, like up&up. As long as it's cheaper than the big brands for the same quality, we win. Zellers never had quality house brands.

I'd be skeptical of any differences until actually experiencing the Canadian version of Target. US retail stores that have expanded to Canada seem to have a spotty record in terms of keeping the same inventory and feel. With H&M, for example, the Canadian versions were only a fraction of their american counterparts. That said, it's hard to imagine it not being an improvement over Zellers in terms of cleanliness and organization.

I think Carls Jr. might too. There was some type of franchising fair in Toronto a little while ago and they both had reps there.

You probably think of this because that classic Canadian knock-off el-cheapo clothing company that owns International Clothiers, etc. decided to open up stores called "Target Apparel" in Canada with a similar logo to leech off the Target brand name. Five Guys is the only US chain in the last 10 years that has moved to Canada that I have been enjoying.

Rest can be ordered online to my door for less than the 2nd rate Canadian versions charge.

I'm somewhat excited, will have to see how it goes. I think it's for all the same reasons I get my groceries at Safeway and not Superstore. Sure it's not high end, but for a slight increase in price, I'll pay to stay away from the congestion and crazies.
