I wonder if this has anything to do with his comments during the lockout. Could his teammates be turned against him now?

Babchuk is the worst d-man on this team. Not good in the defensive zone and his foot speed is terrible.
Unless he is completely sheltered and force fed PP time he is not a valuable piece for this team.
We should look at sending him to a team that is struggling on the PP, maybe Buffalo or Carolina.

No, Butler was a far superior defenceman last year. Babchuk has Al Iafrate's shot couple with Brad Marsh's foot speed and Tom Gilbert's defensive zone presence and Reijo Ruotsalainen's physical presence. Babchuk is horrible, one of the worst dmen in the entire NHL.

I don't have one. Name me 1 dman better than him last year in the final 20 games of the season. Maybe Sarich.
And The Anton gets way too piled on here. "he's too slow" , yet when he pinches in the offensive zone he is 10000 times better than Butler who prob gave up the most 2 on 1s and 3 on 2s last year.
But yes he has sucked in his 2 games that he was in this year. but seriously, 2 games!!!

hahaha. i'm glad you typed all that out given that your think Brent Sutter is an all world coach.
So tell me. WHO was better than Babchuk the last 20-25 games of the season last year?
It wasn't Butler thats for sure. Not gio, not bouwmeester. Scott Hannan?

Gio was better. And even if (a big if) he played better than any other defenceman for 20 games last season, were just gonna give him a pass? Let me guess, you wanted Jokinen back too. Besides his shot I just don't understand why you would want him anywhere near our team. He's not playing for a reason and frankly I'd like to give someone like Breen a shot before I ever see Babchuk suit up again.

Iggy was aweful also down the stretch. Does that make Anton a better player than Iggy?
Anton looked better because everybody else looked like crap.
From everything i read during the lockout Anton was also horrible in the KHL.

So you honestly think a guy who averaged 14:20 a game over his past 25 games and put up 2 goals and 4 assists as an offensive dman (a 7-13-20 pace) and is horrific defensively was our best dman over the last 25 games?
Every single dman on the Flames was better than him over the last 25 games. The guy played against the third and fourth lines and you think he was our best dman. haha, good god man.

Seruiously?
Babchuk is terrible. He was easily worse than every defensman that you named. Hartley had enough sense to stop playing him after 2 games.

No he wasn't. Gio was terrible for the stretch drive last year. And nope, I wanted Jokinen benched to end the season. He was completely terrible yet Brent Sutter was still giving him a regular shift nite after nite.
and you don't agree with my Babchuk assesment? well "up yours!" and "kiss mine!" hahahahahhahahaa

A team lookin for depth down the run will snatch him up the market for unwanted D is starting to pile up but its only a matter of time before a injury happens and a guy with experience is needed to step in Hammer fits the role perfectly.
A guy like sarich I see headed to Pits they need some toughness on the back end and some help with there PK.

I do enjoy how you linked to a thread started by you....where most share the viewpoint that Babchuk was good offensively but still terrible in his own end.
Issue with Babchuk this season is he is not needed.
Wideman replaced the need for a PP specialist and he is too big of a liability defensively to be needed in the lineup.

Everyone needs to calm down about Babchuk vs Butler.
Both are horrible. Neither should be seeing anything over 0 minutes a game.

It's true. Babchuk and Sarchy were the absolute best d-men we had down the stretch there. However, performance over the course of the season was definitely lower than Gio and Bouw (in my eyes). This is a very subjective topic, but I know The Anton was one of the best THEN but not sure about now.

And you bring up Sutter when the Flames are currently a .500 hockey club clinging on to respectability. You should really only bring up coaching when the current Flames are at least approaching being on a 90 point pace.
Your assertion that a guy playing 5/6 sheltered minutes and putting up a PPG average over the time period you specified as an offensive dman that would have had him tied for 130th in the league was our best dman over the last 20-25 games is laughable. I am not even sure if you are serious, but I assume since you linked to a thread you started saying last year that he was great that you probably are.
To put it another way, the PPG average of Babchuk (supposedly an offensive dman) during the period you specified as being when he was the best dman the Flames had, was a whole .02 PPG higher than what Butler had over the entire season. That means that Babchuk was producing at a rate that would have provided the Flames an additional 1 or 2 points over 82 games than they would have had from Butler.
Babchuk is an awful, awful dman. With the exception of his first year in Calgary he has never provided anything positive on the ice.
