The lock out plus lack of proper training camps may affect the eventual outcome on this, it is possible that, yes the Hawks are a great team, but also they did a better job of getting their guys ready somehow or just had more players playing in Jr than most of the top tier opposition and so are benefiting from an odd year hockey wise

No offense....but Bullshat.
Like LA, Pitt, Boston, St. Louis, even Anaheim...when you know you suck, you trade aging assets and accumulate multiple draft picks over a few years. You hit on some high picks...and some lower ones, even trade some of them when you are close to contending for key parts. Not that complicated if you have the right plan.

I'm not sure you get my point, I'm saying that part of the reason the Hawks may have done so well is for some reason their players and coaching staff dealt with the lockout and short training camp better, thus potentially negating the need to hand them the cup now and start playing softball or the like.
In other woirds its a bit of an odd season, Montreal first in the east, the leafs looking like a playoff team frogs falling from the sky rivers of blood etc etc

Actually, the teams around the record, the Canadiens and Flyers in the 70s were PRE-OT regular season, so a tie was a tie...the records, therefore, are comparable.

As far as season preparation, a group of about 15 'Hawks and some ex-'Hawks were working out together at local Chicago rinks during the lockout...Kane was about the only "core" guy that went overseas to play...I feel that this was a large reason that they were able to click so quickly, both offensively, and defensively.

Agreed. Should the Bhawks break the record, it is legit. Having a game go into OT is a tie after reg time and that is how the Flyers went on that amazing 35 game unbeaten streak, 25 wins and 10 ties.

I also believe in the culture of winning. I've watched the last periods of Chicago maintaining the streak and it's playoff style hockey in terms of get it done. Fantastic to watch.
P.S. Gamecentre should always be 50$

The Hawks have matched Montreal’s multi-season points streak of 28 games from the 1977-78 season and trail only Philadelphia’s run of 35 straight games with at least a point during the 1979-80 season.

What if they run the table for the whole 48? I am sure i† will not happen, but they are almost half way there. If there was a futures bet out there, say 1000 to 1 i would take that bet.

The Hawks streak is good and all, and they are clearly playing well. But the current farce of a point system taints Chicago's record a lot. Almost half their games have gone to OT. With both them and their opposition playing for ties, as the incentive is in the nhl, not losing in regulation is becoming more and more meaningless.

I expect the streak to end this week with one of the Avalanche games...the 'Hawks worst games have been against the likes of the BJs and the Flames, a pattern of not having the intensity against probable non-playoff teams, vs. whom they have had little historical rivalry. Even last year, the team the 'Hawks stunk it up against, was the Oil! In this 7 game in 10 night grind they are in, with the back to back vs. the 'Lanche, if they get any kind of goaltending, the Av's end the streak...and the 'Hawks can just get on to grinding out the compressed schedule without the distraction of "the Streak"...most knowledgeable 'Hawk fans would be ok with that.

My guess for the streak to end would be for the Bhawks to lose to the BJs next week. The Avs should be easy fodder. We'll see tomorrow when the Bhawks play the Wild. Minnesota played them tough earlier on.

The streak must be getting interesting as ESPN are sending a reporter to their game against the Wild (snoozefest) and they don't give a rats ass about Hockey.

It would be more meaningful if the teams in tied games didn't spend the last 10 minutes of the 3rd playing for their loser point.
No way does this compare to any of the teams prior to the introduction of the shootout.

Did anyone else see the standings on the article the OP link. NHL.com has the Flames in 8th with 20 pts, the Canucks in 10th with 26pts, and the Oilers weren't even worth mentioning.

Teams have always played for ties. I would argue that they used to play for ties even more than they do now - especially road teams. The reason they added OT was to try and discourage teams from palying for the tie. Did it work? No. But it is no worse now than before.
With respect to the streak, there is no difference between now and past streaks like Montreal and Philly. Only a regulation loss ends a streak and that hasn't changed. The only difference is with respect to wins. Chicago has won games in OT and SOs that, in the old days, would have been ties - but that doesn't impact the streak.

There is more incentive now than ever before to play for a tie after regulation. Guaranteed point followed by 50-50 chance at another point. Before a tie meant no chance at the extra point.
With regards to the Hawks - probably should just wrap the season up now and award the Cup to the Hawks.
