If only there were a way to incorporate how much vastly superior PC gaming and those who do it are to PlayStation 4 hopefuls, this would make for the ultimate cluster#### of a thread by psycnet.

No, you're not. You're trying to make a point but don't make any attempt at understanding the other POV when multiple posters disagree with your thesis. That's not how discussion works.

Went back to Reddit and starting going deeper into the sub forums. Ended up in one and I had flashbacks of being at stileproject years ago.

Now close the thread.

If a store ONLY sold child porn, I would not. If a store had literally millions of products, oozed helpful advice, was filled good people, and way in a back room I had no idea about, some people who weren't really associated with the store but had snuck in and setup a trading post that the store kinda policed as best they could due to the maze of doors they had to go through to find this trading post each time, yes, I'd likely shop there.

I've heard these POVs from a thousand crying neckbeards when they closed down r/jailbait. I was honestly hoping for something different from this particular community. I guess my disappointment is showing.

You could start by responding to things without the "And there's good ol' Reductio Ad Absurdum" stuff.
It's certainly an odd way to post if you don't want to come off like a self important ######, and trust me I'm aware of how to come off like a self important ######.

I didn't even realize there were subreddits that you speak of, and if they are illegal why aren't they getting shut down?
|
Anything illegal is shut down. PsYcNeT is purposely misleading people into thinking Reddit actively facilitates the sharing of illegal content; it does not.
For better or worse, the site owners have chosen to draw the line for what type of content they will allow at "anything legal is permissible". So child porn is prohibited, but all kinds of nasty, distasteful, and morally-questionable-but-not-illegal content is permitted. After the /r/jailbait scandal, they added an additional rule banning sexualized images of underage children even if it doesn't meet the legal definition of CP (e.g. photos of teenagers wearing bikinis).

Well, to be candid, it's a reputation I've held on this forum for nearly 9 years, though there was a large gap in my posting because of :effort: and life stuff.
I'm just grandstanding to a new generation of CPuck posters that are unaware, since I make an effort to avoid Fire On Ice since all I do is lord over people there as well.
I'm pretty stoked at how popular this thread was today however, since it's a slow day at work because of the snow.

Those three subs are terrible, but this thread isn't about the circlejerk nature of Reddit.

You got it.
It goes part and parcel with my self-worth being tied to my performance in internet forums. I mean, if I based my life around anything but, I'd be pretty pathetic.

Thought this post was interesting though:

I guess Rogers, Telus, and Bell as well. They're mms gateway has been used to facilitate illegal trade of content. They will not moderate it unless forced to by an entity such as a record company, movie studio, or law enforcement. Believe me, mms trading of illegal content is not a minor incident. Due to the volumn of mms that pass through their gateway, they are not willing to spend the money to moderate or flag illegal content. At least Reddit has some moderation.

According to this ( http://mashable.com/2012/10/31/reddit-valuation/) Reddit had 43 million active monthly users last year. I have no idea if that's accurate or not but lets say right now there are 20 million active users. I would be more surprised if there wasn't misogyny, slut shaming, whining, unpopular opinions, blah blah blah.
Most of that stuff is either found in the default sub reddits, or the really specific niche sub reddits. It's easy to ignore the defaults, and you have to be actively trying to find the ####ty subs.
But really, if you don't want to use it then that's fine. There are lots of reasons to dislike reddit. The entire superior circle jerk from a bunch of the users can get pretty annoying. A lot of the content is recycled, annoying memes, cringe-worthy rage comics, mens rights, pictures that you'd expect as a forward from your grandparents, sensationalized news articles, anything from /r/politics. But for every stupid sub, there seems to be a good one that has great content. It's like anything on the internet. Ignore that crap, look for the good stuff and you'll get along fine.
It's a bit silly to condemn the entire site and users based on a small percentage of disgusting content that was eliminated a year or two ago. If you want to avoid ever being loosely connected to any criminal activities you might want to just not use the internet entirely. Then hide, naked, in the woods because you'll find that everything you own and everything you do could probably be connected to some criminal organization and explotation of starving children.
