I, for one, think you have drawn an incorrect relationship between Reddit (the company and infrastructure) and the Users (the content, moderators and consumers)

It's a very broad and massive site. Just as people have gotten into trouble on there, a lot of people gotten help be it tobacco addiction, depression etc.
Canuck rioters posted pictures on their FB too does that make FB bad? In all honesty, it just got them caught.

You seem to think posting on the internet takes anything but time and a commitment to responding to people.
It has nothing to do with balls, that just seems to be the impression.
It's morally ambiguous, hard to define, and not black and white. That doesn't change the fact that knowing what lurks in the site makes my ####ing skin crawl.
Just out of curiosity since I'm actually getting feedback and all, how many people have read the link I posted to Gawker?

Since no one has answered it yet...Goons are Something Awful forum users. When they get together to go for some cause, it's usually called a goon rush. I've watched some online games thrive because of goon rushes, and some get completely destroyed. Sometimes they can be great, sometimes the mob mentality makes them the worst.

So, are you sitting there at a desk typing in a lab coat, with a bunch of panels with random blinking lights, and a Rube Goldberg'esque series of multicolored bubbling beakers and hoses in the room? Because that is how I envision anyone who is claiming to do social experiments on internet chat forums.

No but it's an admittedly hilarious picture.

Hey, was there a link posted here, from there, that was about a Valentines card with a Help Me message in it from some Indian guy in a Chinese jail or something. Apparently that was the last time I was there.

Dude, that stuff lurks everywhere. EVERYWHERE. In alleys, in churches, in your neighbours house, in a warehouse, in the back room of a highrise office. I'd love to be able to track all of my money to see what it eventually supports. I bet some of it would make my skin crawl too. Make your choices on what to support in life but realize that other people are OK with making different choices and that doesn't make them morally bankrupt.

If Reddit funds and supports child pornography, and many Calgary Puck members browse Reddit on a regular or semi-regular basis, why are you choosing to actively post on a forum that is indirectly responsible for facilitating child porn, OP?
You might as well delete your Calgary Puck account and avoid this site until all the Redditors on here are banished.

Supporting it doesn't make you morally bankrupt? Would you shop at a store that sold child point?

Okay, but people are making moral judgments that differ from yours and rather than accepting that their intuitive reactions might be different on legitimate grounds, you're essentially ascribing a sort of moral apathy to everyone who doesn't agree with you on this point. Which comes across as arrogant given that the topic is your view of right and wrong - it's impossible to take a position like yours without implying that you're somehow "better" than people who don't share your perspective.
Personally I have no issue whatsoever with someone asserting moral superiority on an issue provided that they've supplied some coherent moral framework on which their stand is based. You haven't done that, it's just "your morality", because who else's would you use?
I don't really care deeply about this issue, I don't use Reddit but also don't feel strongly about condemning a site for its moderation activity or lack thereof, and so I don't know how to respond to what amounts to you saying "I think X is wrong because it's what I think", other than to say, "that's nice, good for you".

I found Psycnet's post that started this I think. Seems like a pretty sweeping generalization for the entire site:

And there's good ol' Reductio Ad Absurdum.
Come on man, I'm trying to discuss this, not respond to illogical suppositions.

After posting there for nearly 5 years, I'd say it's pretty apt.
Oh no wait I forgot cats, and driving memes into the ground.
Also, slut shaming.

This is a really great point. If you are catholic, how do you still continue to support the Catholic church knowing how many atrocities have been committed on children by these men in authoritative positions?
(not suggesting you are Catholic OP, but seems to be far more relevant to current social events than Reddit)
Also, how about oil? I found a National Post article that suggests this is where foreign oil used in Canada comes from:
The sources of the foreign oil are: Algeria (17,942 cubic metres per day), United Kingdom-North Sea (15,370), Nigeria (11,835), Norway (11,483), Saudi Arabia (10,922), Iraq (6,376), Venezuela (4,218), Mexico (4,089), United States (1,857) and 29,999 cubic metres a day is purchased on the open market from other sources.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...article535112/
There are some countries on there that commit real and heinous acts on their citizens.
I guess my point is, these things exist for real, everywhere in our lives. The best you can do is control where you directly spend your money/time to best suit your own moral code.

I've read it and many other stories on the underbelly of the internet. I've also read stories about the underbelly of a lot of other things that take place in the world. The fact that something I do could be tangentially tied to them (with the use of some pretty serious leaps) doesn't bother me for the simple fact that the alternative I choose could likely be tied to some other dark underbelly if you tried hard enough.
I think you greatly overstate the role of reddit in advancing the things you disagree with, particularly with the financing of them.
