Wouldn't that be nice (the bolded part)! Seems like other teams have their surprises, but not us.

The team rankings also include young nhlers so no surprise the flames rank low

I didn't realize that. Obviously the Flames scouts would know a lot more about the development of their prospects than I would but I still think Reinhart deserves a higher ranking IMHO. I hope the Flames plan to give Breen a little taste of the NHL at some point this year.

If i'm the Flames scout answering those surveys', then i'm pumping up the value of marginal prospects to increase their trade value. "Yeah, Nemicsz, that guy has really improved, we all know he can score at will, but we really wanted him to work on his defensive game and he's done just that this year and quite frankly, nobody is scoring any goals when he's on the ice, he's progressing very well and is one of our top 3 prospects!"

Ferland looked good Friday night despite being kept off the score sheet.
Skates very well and has great hands for a big guy, laid a couple HUGE hits as well. He shrugs kids off him and shows a lot of power along the boards.
He honestly reminds me a lot of Kassian for the Canucks.. he was a big presence in front of Brandon's net that they just couldn't budge. I really hope next year goes better for him because I would love to have a player of his style up with the Flames.

I would like that too, but I think there is zero chance Irving re-signs in Calgary after what transpired this season.

That's a good comparison. I would love for him to become that player. I'm actually kind of glad he went back to the WHL this season. While he could sort of keep up to the AHL game, you could tell it was a struggle for him. Plus he looked gassed after every shift.
Next season, if he wants to be a hockey player, he'll have to come into camp is superb shape.

Am I the only one that isn't that high on Ortio? I realize that we should have our own goalies in our system, and having Ramp behind Kipper in Calgary and Brossiot behind Ortio makes most sense, but I'm just not sold on him.

I'm willing to give him one more shot, he definitely was brought over here too early in his development, but you should expect that his game should be able to translate to the AHL level now. Got to give him another chance to prove that he can play in NA, if it fails we can always find another goalie on a PTO, never hard to find journeymen goalies looking for jobs in the AHL.

After tonight I guess Taylor has to be given consideration for next season's plans. He did very well.
PMM must be gloating.

Anyone watch "One the Edge"? I wonder if Ferland is on the show now.

I watched it tonight, ended with them acquiring him, and his first game as a Blade. Was cool to watch how they go through the names of players they want leading up to trade deadline, they were talking about Ferland before he even was back with Brandon, talking about how there is a chance he could come back to the WHL if the NHL reaches a deal.

I know he has been dieting hard, I think he is down about 10 pounds and his conditioning is improving. Still looks like a big body out there, maybe slimming down a bit will be good for him overall.
With the Blades poised to make a deep run in the playoffs it will be a great experience for him..

I think Ortio is a better prospect than Granlund, but it will take several seasons in Europe and AHL before he can even try NHL. There's no particular reason why he should go to the AHL next season, nor would it be a "one more chance" type of deal if he did. Could just as well be the season after that or whenever.
It's another question how long the Flames will keep him signed.

Blades lost last night ending their huge winning streak.
Ferland had a goal and an assist in the loss. His goal was a beauty too, I seen the highlight on TSN.
He went up the middle, stick handled the puck between the two defenders and then bowled right in between them, and while falling snapped the puck past the goalie.
I think the Flames should pay Hesketh a little extra dough this off season, and have Ferland live in his basement all summer. Haha

Anyone else feel that Ferland's comparable might be that of Chris Simon? Hopefully a more controlled Simon anyways. I hope for closer to a Milan Lucic. Ferland has better junior numbers than either of those guys though. Product of who he played with/circumstance, or is he really a better junior player than those guys were?
Either way, IF Ferland develops, he can become quite the force for the Flames in the future. Definitely a unique player. Really hoping he gets it together in terms of becoming a pro. Definitely see him as a fan favorite if he does.
