I agree that he hasn't stood out, but he also hasn't been put in many situations that would provide him with a chance to. I would imagine it's tough to make the high risk high skill play when you're you'll be benched for the game if it doesn't go perfectly. Easier to play it with a nondescript safe play.
When he's given a few 15min/games of top 3 line play is when you'll start seeing some serious improvement.
