We did some of our stuff through vista print as well, including the menus and programs. Very cheap and you can design your own thing. Also, having our own sticker mailing labels have been very handy as well.

Although it doesn't help since you're in the Maritimes, we got our invitations made at an Asian paper company. Picked out the paper, designed using MS Word, and they put it all together for us for about $1.25 per invitation

Why do people send both save the date cards and invitations?

Save some money by telling your guy friends about it in person. They wont care about the invitation.

Invites let them know how pricey the bar is.

My wife and I created videos for everybody on the Youtube. We filmed small segments for everyone then slotted them into the invite. This way everyone got a personal invite.

Professional...not really... but they were a big hit.

Reg75 from this very site helped us to create a few sections of the clip as well!

We're well aware that they're looked at once, put in a "safe place" and then there's a mad scramble the day of the wedding to find the invitation to see what the day's itinerary is.

We both want something simple, but in line with the wedding's theme. Hence why I'm curious where people got their invites.

I'm fairly indifferent, she wants the card type that has the necessary info on it.

Vista print seems popular, I'll look into it more. Thanks, keep the suggestions coming.

Appointment requests that upload into your Outlook Calendar. One or the wedding, next one for the reception. Everyone should have that linked to their phone and you are good.

Also gives people the chance to suggest a new time of there is a scheduling conflict.

I'll google and see if I can find out whether they're still in business, but between Michael's and DIY stuff you can find online, it's probably cheaper to do it that way.
In 1990? I don't believe it.

A very good point. One I hadn't thought of yet. So thanks.

The calendar sync is a good idea, how do I do that, and I'm assuming I can then upload it and put a link on the wedding website.

Yeah, someone tried to sell us a 250 dollar package. We ended up going to Michaels with the 50% coupon, and printed our own for 35 bucks plus the cost of the ink. I don't think people were offended by our invitations as most of them showed up, and brought gifts.

Worked out quite well. I think in the end we spent less than $50. But then had to add the cost of postage. Was still very cheap. Invitations looked nice.

Edit: I'll see if I can dig one up and post a pic.
+1

This is exactly what we did. Though we splurged and spent ~ $75

My fioncee and I went to weddingpaperdivas, based off a friends idea who said vistaprint wasn't they way to go.

I have no idea why, I do as I am told when it comes to invitations.

But it is another site to check out and price compare against

Another vote for weddingpaperdivas. Ours turned out excellent and for a reasonable price.

We mailed out invitations and then called it off three months later. That one sits up there with the gold-plated Monster cable and treadmill as the most glaring example of money flushed down the toilet in my life.

Next time I'll splurge on a few packs of Post-it Notes (y'know, the high-priced fancy ones in neon colours that are shaped like hearts or stars) and scribble the event, date, and time on it for all the guests to stick on their fridge.

Yup, that's what I'll do.

My wife used Cards and Pockets. She did the design, they cut and assembled most of the invitation.

Wow, $350 for 200 doesnt sound like a terrible price compared to what we were looking at.

4 inserts were going to run us 5.25 each for 100.

There are alot of online places that will do basics for 89c per.
