Pretty sure we'll be cursing the Terrvainen / Jankowski pick in the future. Really hope I'm wrong.
The guy's drafting and trading history is awful, he was the wrong choice to be Darryl's second, he was the wrong choice to just grandfather into the GM chair, and I'm sure they'll make the wrong choice now.

Out of thanks but I agree. I didn't want Feaster to be Darryl's replacement but was willing to give him a chance.
He's had that IMO.

Sig'd. I like Feaster, I've defended him a lot in the past, but this is an inexcusable oversight from a man who is suppose to be a lawyer. I don't want to know what our next GM's voice sounds like. Stop talking, start fixing this team, and don't come back until your job is done. If I wanted someone to talk BS and be a cheerleader, I'd seek out a strip club.

I found it to be idiotic for him to come out and rip the Oilers when we haven't exactly been in a position of dominance over anyone for the last few seasons.
He talked about wandering around in the desert, what the hell have we been doing? Then to finish it off he says he has no desire to be a part of a serious rebuild which just kills me. Whether you feel that way or not, keep your mouth shut.
The whole thing just reeked of arrogance to me and he had (has) done nothing to put himself in a position to boast about anything.

The Flames don't even seem to realize that they too are wandering the desert. Either that, or the expectations truly have gone back to 'at least we're better than the Oilers'.

Which at this point is like being proud that you're only the third fattest chick at a bar.

Feaster is a great talker.
I would love to know what exactly he meant by "intellectual honesty" and how he has shown that in his actions since coming here.

I think Feaster was only GM of this team for 2 trade deadlines and 1 of which we were the hottest team in the league but likely could have hit a massive homerun win on an Iggy-LA Kings trade.
Last year's no move at the deadline was disappointing. Feaster does like to say they were very active trying to move players but couldn't get anything done so who knows what the truth is.
It is frustrating with the intellectual honesty. This team continues to fail him but I really think the roster he has built right now has so many holes. They are way too deep on the wing which is somewhat burying Sven and the fact Cammy, Tanguay, and Comeau have been playing center is a big problem. I do like that he went after RoR but that has become a big mess. The Ricahrds move was one I liked but these were both unrealistic. Richards was destined to go to NY and the Avs were destined to match.
What needs to happen is the team needs a new direction and they have a new coach same problems. Time to change the players time to get younger and build for the future. Nothing is more frustrating that cheering for a "win-now" team that can't even make the playoffs.

Both times he swung for the fences(ROR and Richards) he's missed. Luckily, if either had gone through we'd be in worse shape so they didn't....but he missed out of sheer luck on both. In Richards' case he propelled us to consideration by offering the most money, and obviously everyone knows about the situation with ROR. To boot he called him a franchise player.
In short, we're lucky neither of his (reported) franchise changing moves came to fruition, so in a time when the franchise needs change and needs direction do we really want someone who's shown poor judgement?

He got a five year deal? In what world does he have the leverage to get that kind of offer considering he was so sought after by NHL teams that he was writing for The Hockey News for a full year after he was fired? What is Ken King thinking?

I've mentioned this in another thread but my great fear is that Feaster is going to be so embarrassed by what has happened that he will swing for the fences on a huge name by giving up our few valuable pieces of youth/picks to try and redeem himself. I have no faith that a deal of this nature will turn out to be a good move in the long term but I would be extremely surprised if he doesn't force his way into a deal.
I really hope I'm wrong.

There is something wrong with this team, something drastically wrong. Is it Feaster? Maybe, the best player he's added to our team has been Hudler. I think he's stuck in the spot of not being able to move the pieces of the team other teams would want because then nobody would come to watch the games any more. As long as there are fans in the stands I don't see anything changing, to the owners it seems to be a business first winning second kind of thing, icing an AHL team for a year isn't going to be good for business in the short run

First time I heard that term was from Brian Tracy. It was also from this book:
http://www.gracepointe.net/conversat...mer-of-heaven/
It loses its meaning the more it is used and as time goes by.

From the first meeting he had with the fans and with King at Flames Central, a few weeks after Sutter was fired.
Haven't read the whole thing but am sure there's some nuggets in here that fit real well in this thread.
From one of my posts, he compared Iginla to Tim Taylor and Andreychuk. I am sure there's a lot more in there which demostrates some of the hot air he was blowing at that time to show everyone how different things were supposedly going to be under him.
Things like playing music in the dressing room etc in addition to the usual "accountibility" smoke.
Also the thread where they had to talk the guy off the ledge for lack of newsletters on the seats.

You also forgot to mention claiming MacDonald off of waivers, and I have no idea what you mean by "sort of" with regards to signing Wideman. Did he, or did he not trade for Wideman's rights and then sign him to a contract? What about his draft record?
All I'm saying is sure, maybe he's said some stupid things along the way, but it's not like the guy is Mike Millbury II or something.
|
You're right, there aren't any real glaringly bad moves there, but there isn't much that is very good either, and that's the point. If Feaster had come in and said that his plan was to keep this team mediocre and performing at the same rate that they were before he was hired, then fine, but that's not what said. He came in and promised a change in culture. He guaranteed that the Flames would make the playoffs. When you look at the moves that you quoted and realize that that is how he tried to go about doing it, then I don't think he has a leg to stand on. Making marginal adjustments and then hoping that we somehow snag the 8th playoff spot is just a clueless GM trying to add one or two years to the life of his contract.

"I want this to be a tough building to play in" "Both on the ice and off".
"Hartsy will make this a tough building to play in both on and off the ice".
In the end this administration's arrogance to what the Oilers have been going through, should be there demise. F'ing this up today, just the cherry on top.
