I bet the Avs are kicking themselves for matching now, without O'reilly on the Flames, along with the associated turmoil, that 1st would have been top 3

Yeah the myth of Weisbrod is an odd concept on this board. Just what has this guy done to make people so impressed by him?

I don't think the Oilers ever did something this disgraceful.

It's the translation from cryllic script to latin script that creates the incorrect spelling, if you look at the russian version it's the same way they spell his name for all the games he played.

We are the Oilers of 06-09. There's very little differentiation.

That may have been their position. Unfortunately for them, the CBA, like any other contract is open to judicial interpretation.
The position the NHL is taking is ridiculous. O'Reilly has signed an offer sheet now. Whether that offer was given by the Avs or the Flames, is of no consequence. He shouldn't have to pass through waivers with the Flames anymore than he does now.
I don't see how the NHL can take the position that the moment a player ceases to be an RFA is different depending on the team that provides the offer sheet. If the NHL forces the Avs to put him through waivers, at least their is consistency; however, that's still highway robbery for a CBA document that is misleading at best.

Still want to hear an official statement from Daly, and Feaster on this but if this ends up being true you need to fire your general managers.
No way do you let him stay after he almost threw away a 1st, a 3rd, and $2.5 million dollars.

Yes, that's right.
On January 21st he played 19:20 in a 2-1 loss, was a -1 and 14/26 in the faceoff circle.
On the 23rd he played 15:41 in a 4-1 loss, and went 11/19 in the faceoff circle.

The Calgary Flames are a dog's breakfast.
Should he go for this reason? Ultimately yes.
But what the hell is this team doing in general? It's gong show hockey.

Apologies if its been mentioned already, haven't read the full thread. But are we 100% sure now that this was in fact the case that he'd have to clear waivers, or did the new CBA fix that? Because the hockey beat writers on my twitter seem divided on it at the moment.
I'm really hoping so, as I've been a Feaster supporter and feel he gets dumped on too much for what is mostly Sutter's mess. But this is pretty unforgivable if true.

Murray Edwards is supposed to be a real hard ass that holds people accountable, right?
Wouldn't be surprised to see Feaster on his keaster after this.

Factor in the fact that Feaster has a LAW DEGREE and is therefore the last GM in the league who should be caught in such a situation, and the answer should be obvious.

It's actually baffling. The Flames would have been without a pick in the first 3 rounds of the deepest draft in nearly 10 years purely as a result of complete sloppiness from their front office.

To what depth's does this homerism reach here? You're trying to deflect this onto the contract structure? This is absolutely inexcusable for a team to miss.
It was a good try to improve the club but clearly one that was not looked into accordingly. The Flames just about became the biggest laughing stock in the league....which they probably already have cemented themselves now anyway.
The fact that this almost happened is enough to say that the right people are not in place in this organization plain and simple.

-Asked for money back from player in order to trade him
-Told not to send an offer sheet for Vanek because Buffalo would match, did anyways.
-Try to send an injured player in a trade (twice) as part of future considerations to LA.
-Attemped to draft an ineligble player in 2002.
That's just the admin stuff...the reason they can't get UFA's to sign is a lot more of a Kevin Lowe issue.
The Flames have a way to go to match...but this is still an embarassment.

I just can't see how they can not fire Feaster. This is a pr mess. Firing the no name minion that might have made the initial mistake will do nothing. The team is sinking and all the flames had going into UFA to help with their mandate was that they would spend to win now. I just can't see an agent telling his client that this team is not a mess right now.
