I am certain Daly was right when he stated it would be under last years rules.

Feaster would have gotten his information from the NHL. If there was a mistake here, it's on the league. The Flames would have be compensated.

Well, sort of - they still would've lost him as a team below them would probably have claimed him. Certainly, I would think.

No, lawyers do make mistakes but do you really think Feaster would sign the guy unless he knew he would not have to pass through waivers? The guy is not that stupid.

Maybe something to remember before trying to get in shots of your own next time.

Yeah, it seems odd that the NHL would actually have a rule in place that nullifies offer sheets on players playing elsewhere.

Anybody notice TSN who have the real hockey experts have not said boo about this? There is a reason for this, there is no story here. They are sitting back laughing at SN, it would be on their lead page if it had any merit.

Could have been an oversight.

As far as we know! Things happen and oversights are made, the fact that there is still so much ambiguity to the whole thing makes it a HUGE oversight by Feaster and the Flames management team.
You can't just make an assumption of this magnitude when it could end up in a legal battle going one way or the other.

That would be a hard statement to overcome in the "the rule doesn't specify that it has to be your own RFA" argument.
|
Isn't 13.23 that the player has to pass through waivers?
That means Ryan O'Reilly wouldn't have had to pass through waivers if he would have been exempt from this rule right?

Its not just that, The Vancouver media is saying that while they did not give an offer sheet to O Reilly they were just about to. They are also saying another team was about to do the same. Do posters really think between all of those GM's and lawyers that they would have all missed it?
Not to mention even if it is true, does anybody think a team would really take them to court? The flames would have the backing of the NHL,& NHLPA. Not to mention the bad will that team would have with O Reilly's agent and other agents.

Who the hell is TSN? They aren't gods gift to hockey or the CBA. This story definitely has merit.

Or perhaps they decided not to deal with it because it's a moot point - you're right, there is no story here, because the Avs matched and no one is arguing that ROR should go through waivers now.
Though I'd be surprised if Bob doesn't do a writeup of some sort.

No, it really doesn't. It has merit because some journalist says so? The rule states the player is exempt if he is on a clubs reserve. He was, it does not specify the player has to sign with that team.
