Sad state of affairs for the Flames.
When you're losing games after holding 3 goal leads, what reason is there for NOT playing young/new players more often?
At least the Hawks are making this season interesting.

To be fair, Cervenka played 14:47 last night, unlike a certain Sven that couldn't even crack 9 minutes.

Wow rough article...seems most of us basically assumed he wasn't happy, but its one thing to assume, and another to have it confirmed.
We lose out on O'Reilly, have our most excruciating loss on the year (so far), and now wake up to this article. Tough last 12hrs to be a Flames fan.

But we know it has to be a faulty translation. I mean come on everybody knows all the Flames are happy this year under Hartley. Freed from the uber tyrant Sutter they all dance around the ice virtually never touching it as they are so buoyed by their joy. Their practices now the highlights of their day. The effusive praise from the jolly coach filling them with good thoughts which they then use to dominate their unhappy opponents.
Cervenka is actually brimming with happiness.

Sounds more like he's sulking and making excuses.

Cervenka does not deserve to be a healthy scratch..period. Things can be only worse from there with him and his self-trust. I think he had more than solid first few games, then something maybe happened between him and coach and i can īt help myself, but he is in the Hartley īs doghouse. After so many years without real talent, now we īve got some and we are wasting it this way. Unacceptable, I was a fan of Bob early in the season despite bad record, but my trust in him is starting to fade. He is doing the same job with this group as last coaches /not blaming him, this group is really hard to coach/ and doing bad decisions. Let Sven, Cervas and Hudler play for quite a few games together, that line shuffling shift after shift after shift is like screaming for help by coach :-) Not a solution, that lies elsewhere.........Some players must be made accountable for this garbage, I still think some of them have green light whatever happens /is Cervenka always the worse in game???!that he already was healthy scratch?/......Other teams take much better care about their potential star rookies, shame, such a shame. Jay Feaster was like "we will be behind you Roman, be cool". And all of a sudden, he is already in a doghouse /i hope today īs game with 15min of ice time was the start of better things to come/. He is not Jagr in his prime, nobody is, but he is much, much better than half of our team, but have limited chance to prove himself. I feel for Roman, I really do, i would be mad, if a guy like Comeau was in instead of me........And the same can be said about Sven - talented player with great hockey sense, almost no PP time. Oooooooh that is so hard to be a Flames fan! Still, season is far from over! GO FLAMES GOOOO!!!!

I don't see anything wrong with how Cervenka has been handled. I'm sympathetic to all the issues he has to deal with, but he hasn't really looked amazing and he's been getting decent ice time for the most part.
Lots of new players and rookies are given less of an opportunity to prove themselves than Cervenka has been.

Everybody has his own opinion, that is for sure. I see something wrong, I really do. Healthy scratch, 2:57 TOI right after.......Comeau still floating around. Cannot stand that player anymore!

He hasn't looked so good that it's a no-brainer to give him everything, so I can't bring myself to blame the coach for not giving unearned ice time to an unproven player. As frustrating as this might sometimes be to fan, it happens with practically every rookie. Coaches in the NHL are terrified of losing, and if you're unproven and look at all like you have trouble keeping up both ways on the ice, they're not going to give you the benefit of the doubt. You have to earn the coach's trust first.
I still think he's received plenty of opportunities. More than a typical rookie would, apart from some very highly ranked prospects.

Hudler is way better when he is playing with Cervenka. Last night was a good game for both. Hudler picked up 3 points, Roman apparently didn't get any points (I thought he had an assist but was wrong) but he was on the ice for some goals and definitely had another good game against the avalanche.
Play the guy more, he is not part of the problem and he can only improve on what has already been a decent start to an NHL career. Why bring the guy in if you aren't going to help him be successful?

After all the hubbub yesterday, missed this thread update.
Too bad, and yes the health issues and yes he's gotten some chances but in I also think that he was given the hard sell by Feaster with promises made to convince him to come here that haven't come to fruition.
Doesn't help that your team slots you into the NHL as a center when your favored position is wing.

2 good games in a row from cervenka with more ice time and playing with iggy. He's looking a lot faster and a lot more confident out there!

Two awesome games from him. He is a solid offensive player that makes Iggy and Hudler better, hopefully the lineup doesn't change at all from last night except maybe Begin in for Jackman

I would imagine he's ben hitting the gym and the treadmill pretty hard whenever they have a few days between games and them also learning the pace of the NHL just through playing. I really like this guy and have a lot of confidence in him. Glad he's playing well as of late.

He probably should have had 3 last night, his best game by far. He was also competing well in the corners and was fast on the forecheck, maybe he's finally rounding into NHL shape.

Or maybe he isn't playing 2 minutes a night, and playing with scrubs. If given proper ice time then he will contribute, you can't expect much, or get him to earn more ice time from 2 minutes.
Its a shame Blake Comeau and his useless wheeling around the net continues to ge tpriase, and more ice time, and promoted up lines, but skill players get to rid the bench.

He's still adapting to NHL speed. On his line with Iggy and Hudler, he's still visibly winded the most and the one leaning on his stick the most between plays catching his breath. He'll get there but needs more conditioning work.
On several of the good plays from that line last night, Cervenka missed out on the scoresheet because he was the one doubling back to play defense while Iggy and Hudler made the risker plays deep in the zone. Good for him to do that.

Cervenka played 15:30 last night, 2 minutes more than Comeau.
