Avs are absolutely f'ed next summer. They'll have to resign:
Stastny
Landeskog
Duchene
Downie
Varlamov
& qualify O'Reilly at 6.5MM

Wondering if it was a standing bet on the game tonight. Avs win, they reject. They lose, they match..

I am sure one or two of those guys can be dealt if need be.
Hard to say a team is F'ed because its young players are playing so well that they need to be paid.

They will likely try to unload Stastny in the summer.

This is going to suck when we have the 15th pick this year, nowhere near a lottery pick that so many people feel we're going to have.
I mean, I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but this team is going to be in the hunt and O'Reilly would have looked good in a Flames uni.
It's probably a bigger gamble with a 10-15th pick then it would have been with O'Reilly

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have O'Reilly.... just not at that cost.

I was hoping we could pull it off - but it was pretty clear Avs needed to match, if for no other reason to keep him out of an opponents hands.
Sort of shocked at how quick they matched.

THANK GOODNESS! I really hope the Flames learn to build through the draft. Overpayment, yes, and they're damn lucky they made their rival to bite the bullet. That said, this is the year to be mediocre and get a high pick. Sell tradable assets and get some high picks.

I also don't like the team being a bridesmaid at every attempt to sign a number one center.
