As long as the first round pick isn't top 3 (and I don't think it will be), then this is an awesome deal IMO

If that 1st ends up being top 5 - dear lord.

Yeah I'm not sure about this at all. I'm kind of hoping the Avs match just because I don't think he's going to live up to the hype and we will spend the next few years lamenting the player that could have been drafted in the 1st round.

Not a fan of this move.
Once again we're attempting to delay the inevitable rebuild. And in a year we could be drafting in the top five for the first time in... ever?

They aren't going to match. Look at how he is getting paid, he is getting 2.5 mil RIGHT AWAY and 6.5 next year.
ROR is now a Flame guys. If Colorado matches I'll be shocked

I don't get the hate for the offer sheet in this circumstance. He's sitting there collecting dust this season. Just because they don't want to spend the cash on him doesn't mean others can't. They have a right to offer sheet him. If they get their panties in a knot, tough @#$#.
He's what we need (if he brings what they think he can) I don't like the $6.5 in Yr. 2, but 5/per average isn't that bad.

What are you talking about? O'Reilly is 21 years old.

Terrible plan. We will not have any picks in the first 3 rounds of the draft (unless this is a pre-sell off move and we are getting more picks).
Has O'Reilly actually accepted the Flames offer?

Qualifying offer. O'Reilly would still be a restricted free agent in two years so this ensures that his minimum Qualifying offer is 7.15M dollars... it's a poison pill to prevent Aves from matching.
I'm a fan. O'Reilly is a really good player, he's a center and he's only 21 years old.

The organization continues to show it has no plan or strategy, short or long term for anything. Just fly by the seat of their pants and hope things work out.
Losing a 1st round pick this year could be devastating given how good this draft is. That said, if the team flops, they will probably end up picking up some draft picks at the deadline. Still, none will be higher than their own 1st rounder if they do indeed flop.

bad move. This kid is not worth a top 5 pick. I really hope the Avs match the deal and are forced to make a trade.....Maybe that's what Feaster wants. The Avs tie up that money in ROR and have to then make a deal and get rid of another good player.

LOL, this is what I get for ripping on the McGrattan trade. Not sure I like the overpayment but at least it was a bold move that will improve the team. I give Feaster the thumbs up for going all in.

I know we desperately need a centre but I really don't like the idea of losing our first round pick this year.
This thread should be a poll, I bet most won't approve.

Don`t like if this is part of a win now mode. I`d like to see CGY acquire more picks and prospects, not the other way around.
Could be O`Reilly`s Dad is another Lindros parent in the making.

Uh
K, so
Really?
1st and 3rd round draft pick for a guy who's basically a pretty decent #2 centre, on a 2 year deal? In which he costs $5M?
Don't like this at all for the Flames.

I was about to make a joke that Feaster had gone all-in-win-now-mode with the McGrattan trade. I guess it was true!

How long do they have to make a decision? With the cap going down next year, signing Iggy should be interesting.

Any chance he signs an extension shortly after? and if so would that be collusion?
eg. comes to calgary and we sign him to another 4 year extension lowering the avg salary per year down to somewhere in the 4and a half mil range?
