I love how people assume Mcgrattan will be on the ice when our goalie gets ran.
He plays 5 minutes a night, chances are he'll be on the bench when it happens and it will be pretty hard for him to get on the ice at the same time as the player who ran our goalie.
99% of the time when a goalie gets run the retribution happens immediately. Mcgrattan isn't going to stop our goalie getting run.

No but hopefully he is the one running the opposing teams goalie the next shift.

Has anyone considered that McGrattan might simply be a replacement for Akim Aliu? In Abbotsford.

I for one am amped for the return of the king. Mcgrattan is a beat, turbo warrior, cant wait for him to lace up for the young guns. brings a never let die attitude and is scared of no one.

By the way the "You whine about team toughness and now you whine about McGrattan!" argument is a logical fallacy. There isn't this one silly poster here doing both things.

Great point. This idea of improving team toughness by finding the toughest guy out there and expecting his aura to radiate through-out the team is ridiculous.
The Flames need to improve team toughness. That's pretty evident. But simply adding a tough guy to play 4 minutes a night doesn't improve much. Team toughness is something you have to build and there's no quick band-aid fix for it.

I find it a tad ridiculous that people are claiming that moves like this are causing them to lose support in Feaster. This is a nothing move that essentially costs nothing. If you don't like Mcgrattan, thats fine, but this is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Don't kid yourself. He'll be watching the game from the 96% of the time.

I wonder if Feaster looks at the Leafs and thinks, "oh their roster doesn't look that much better than ours, how are they successful, must be the tough guys, I'll try this too".

the contrarian view would be that you can only judge the moves that have been made.
If Feaster doesn't make any blockbuster trades, the only thing you can judge are these little trades no?

Awesome! Always loved mcGratton. He battled through a substance abuse problem and got his life back. Great fighter to boot. Loved what he brought in his last stint in cgy.

Well it doesn't take a goon to run their goalie. Any AHL player can do that.

The hockeyfights.com scorecard has him at 10 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws during his season with the Flames. He was 5-0-1 last season. He definitely can fight.
The rest of his game isn't great, but he's never had a +/- worse than -2 in a season, so he's not the liability that some people are making him out to be.
Edit: If you're thinking of Andre Roy, though, you are correct. He was 0-6-3 in fights as a Flame.

He won quite a few from what I remember. He was the master of the left hand straight arm jab while holding the guy's jersey to soften him up, then going in for the finish with the right.
