I am in agreement with you that he should be getting icetime (though my post may have been ambiguous). I think that he showed last year as well as the first couple games this year that he can handle the pace of the NHL and is an NHL player.

He needs to be on the ice - making some mistakes is ok.

This team cracks me up, young players have to prove themselves but are never given the chance to develop. It would be different if the Flames were consistently at the top of the league, but given the situation the last few years, what do the Flames have to lose?

Let the young guys try and fail, learn from it and get better. That's how you become accomplished at anything.

Yeah ...Sven needs more minutes.

I remember something funny about Phaneuf's 1st year here......He seemed to stay out on purpose and I remember him getting every opportunity to stay out on teh ice.

Call me nuts but Id swear he was logging some serious time out there ...even double shifted perhaps.

I wish Hartley would put him with skill as well instead of wasting time with Coma and whatever other scrub

Should have added green text, that was the point.

The so called "merit" system is as hyprocritcal as anything I've ever heard. Horak gets called up and scores a goal, then gets sent down. Comeau can't hit the net to save his life and gets promoted to centre Iggy and Tangs.

I am not worried about Sven at all and also not worried about how he is being handled. I truly think he will be getting increased minutes as the season progresses.

It does suck that the team is so deep on the wing and so thin up the middle. If Sven was a C he would be in the top 6 right now.

But C don't usually play C on our team. You have to be a winger to play C.

Tangs
Huds
Cammie
Comeau

I asked in another thread, why not try him at center?...worked for Giroux

I'm tired of seing every second shift Sven making a nice play only to see it die on the sticks of pluggers like Comeau.

It's not like Hartley has been given 4 adequate lines of NHL players. Still, his lineups have been very questionable all year and I think it's about time we start to talk about it.

It's almost like he knows his lines aren't going to work so he starts juggling them before the first period is even over

Yeah I don't get why Horak is not playing at center up here right now. I know he says he would rather play the wing and develop there he fills a need and has played 60+ games up the middle in the NHL already.

I've also never heard somebody complain when Roman Horak is on the ice. Smart two-way player

I'm fine with his mins. He's been playing pretty unnoticable hockey, so think 3rd line mins is justified.

I would like him on the 2nd PP unit. Considering his performance thus far, i think we should be happy hartley is keeping him with a skilled guy like hudler.

I have to disagree as he has been playing with Comeau in more of a checking role. I think the fact that he has played unnoticable hockey is not as bad as it seems as he is not being a defensive liability.

I agree that ideal situation would be to return Baertschi to the PP and the second line with the forward line up below. The problem is trying to piece together a viable line-up without needing to juggle the lines which I don't see that much of a reality due to the overabundance of wingers.

Tanguay - Cammalleri - Iginla
Baertschi - Horak (Until Backlund Returns) - Hudler
Glencross - Stajan - Stempniak
Cervenka - Jones - Aliu/McGrattan

Get rid of: Comeau, Begin, Jackman

The Flames are definitely slowly becoming the laughing stock of the league.

So sick of fans defending the Flames organization with "Theo Fleury played 4th line and turned out okay" or "he needs to earn his ice time".

We have by far the weakest development system in the NHL. 3 or 4 draft picks playing for the Flames is cause for concern. Baertschi is not being put in a position to succeed.

Well this team and that team that had Mullen, Loob, Gilmour, Nieuwendyk, Hrdina, Otto, Roberts, Patterson, Peplinski, Hunter, are very similar.....

He's been playing with him for a couple games. Problem is that Comeau also plays with Sven which eliminates any potential for offence.
