Even though MacDonald has been allowing 3-4 goals per game, most of those have been bad defense for the most part. He has kept the Flames hopes alive in most of the games he has played thus far.
MacDonald has been the most reliable back up to Kipper in quite a number of seasons.

I think he's done with the Flames now. Sucks... but oh well.

This is actually quite an effective method of goaltending when the puck is below the goal line. Many top goaltenders utilize this technique now like Jonathan Quick in LA.

Joey destroyed the Wild last night. That was a phenomenal game from him. I can now see why Feaster and crew targeted him as a potential trade piece, he's pretty good.

I really do like him. He's a very capable backup. He's pretty smart with position, fairly athletic, and a battler.

Still, his rebound control leaves a LOT to be desired though.

It's coming. Quite honestly MacDonalds new mask might be the only highlight in the next 7-8 games.

So good how his left leg came across to save the rebound. That was outstanding.

yeah and stempniak almost put it back into his own net as he tried to slide it back to MacDonald to cover. If MacDonald had lifted his legs up just a bit that would have gone it. It was a close call, MacDonald with a couple brilliant saves at the end.

Granted it's a small sample size but given that Kipper has been out for a while and the Flames haven't really dropped off I feel comfortable going with Ramo and MacDonald next season if Kipper could net a solid prospect/draft picks, etc at the deadline. I simply think the teams problems are deeper than goaltending and one more season of Kipper isn't going to change the plight of the team.

I fully agree. However i don''t think ownership and management see it like that.

What makes you think there is only one more season of Kipper?

Other than his contract expiring (which is what they do), there is nothing to suggest he is done in a year.

From Monday's Taylor starting article:

Quote:
Even for reporters, the clues were obvious.
One goalie, Joey MacDonald, was breaking in brand-new pads. These pillows, fresh out of the cellophane, were glowing white. (His new mask, by the way, is in the mail.)
