still brings toughness, strength etc. just lost his wheels is all.

I may be biased as I know Regehr personally and is a great guy. Such a shame he isnt faster, as I believe he could still be a top 4 contributor if he had the speed.

I've also been watching flyer games and i don't see why they would want Iggy. They need help on D more than they need another RW.
Spooner would basically be Toronto Stajan at his best. A solid unspectacular 2nd line C. That's okay though, but expecting him to develop into a 1st line C might be unrealistic.

That's definitely a possibility, but he's got a bit more potential than that. Julien talks about Spooner being a very smart player, but a guy who can lose focus. He's put up decent numbers in Providence, if he can mature and become a more focused player he could be a decent top 6 forward. He also plays wing, and when he's played on Boston he's been on wing and looks decent there. He had a legit shot at making the team this year but was beat out by Bourque for the third line role, which is probably a good thing since Spooner is more suited for top 6.

This is not to say that Flames fans should be thrilled if they got Spooner, and I've said before I don't think Iginla gets moved. But, if it were to happen and the return was was similar to the Kaberle deal, Spooner and a first would be in that range. Personally, I think Spooner is a better prospect than Colborne was at the time. Just a few thoughts from a Bruins fan.

A second line centre is a lot more than Iginla will be in 2-5 seasons.

And he got the 2nd round pick back at the draft. You don't like the deal or Butler, we get it. Feaster will never admit it but this was not a hockey trade and instead a money deal with suspected ownership involvement so really hard to judge without knowing all the circumstances which we will probably never know.

Lost hands down? Butler is absolute garbage too. Sure we offloaded a bad contract but when we traded Regher his stock was still pretty high and the return should have been better than an AHL defencemen.

Reggie's stock was only high in the eyes of flames fans. He needed to be traded the year before to get great value.

Regent's stock was high only to mindless homers.

Again I challenge you to look at what previous one dimensional defensive dmen bring back in a trade. The answer is about what Regehr returned. Unbelievable how overrated he still is. Dude was a boat anchor of a contract and was highly replaceable for the type of player he was.

I hate this notion that you can 'get picks back'. When you trade a pick, it's gone. You gave something up. When you acquire a pick, you spend to get it. You don't 're-acquire' the one you gave up. They're two entirely different transactions.

It's like saying if you spend $1,000 on car repairs you can just get it back when you get paid next month. No, you don't get the $1,000 back. You earn more money. And if you hadn't spent that $1,000 on car repairs, you would still have that money and the money you earned on your next paycheque.

Teams are allowed to have more than one pick in a round. At our stage of the talent cycle, it's highly desirable that we do.

Regehr's trajectory has not been a surprise to NHL GMs - that's what happens to defensive d-men of a certain age who are losing their mobility. So the belief among some fans here that there were better deals on the table for Regehr only makes sense if you think a lot of NHL GMs are fools.

Correction: it is what happens with players who are committed to playing a highly physical game and constantly putting bidy on the line. In their prime they will be better, but the will not last as long. See Warraner, Rhett

It is tough to watch guys who you respect for how they played the game go downhill really fast at the end, and then think about other guys who mailed in th physicl contact years prior with the hope of extending the career, living off of reputation. See Gautier, Denis

RR was also terribly overrated by fans for the last 2-3 years he was a Flame. Return wasn't great by any standards but its not like we were talking about a superstar. He was a pylon making way too much by the time he was moved.

Regehr was Team Canada material pre-2005-lockout but the openness of the "New NHL" and his continued decline of speed (due to age) killed him.

I'm happy with what he fetched the Flames at the time. Kotalik is gone and Regehr is not good anymore. Losing the 2nd rounder was the price to pay to dump $7.1 million.

The Flames got Butler, who I think is bad, but he's at least young and can skate better than Regehr. Byron is an AHL/NHL floater who can fill in on the 3rd line if need be. The key was the salary dump. The Flames got a ton of flexibility.

That's fair. Just don't be suprised when Iginla fetches you a late first round pick or even a 2nd rounder and "prospect" that is more likely to be AHL quality then NHL.

We're talking about a guy that was the vocal captain of the flames, him and Jarome worked well tandeming the captain role.
