Not a smart move by Brouwer for mouthing off on Semin right before they play each other, and it's not like he's saying anything we don't already know. Semin is the Alex Kovalev of this generation.
His comments on Boudreau are also not news given that the Caps were notorious for having a country club-like atmosphere. I think Boudreau has shown that the players are the problem in Washington as he's been able to get the most out of Anaheim, while Oates can't seem to turn the ship around.

Perhaps that is what "most" people say about Semin, but not "everyone"!

Also, I think perhaps due to Semin's immense skill, and the fact he uses finesse to make his way around the ice, people don't give Semin the credit he deserves defensively. He's not a detriment to the team when he's been +75 throughout his career, whereas Troy Brouwer, a guy one would expect to be a good defensive player with lots of effort, is a career - 12.

They have played together for what 17 games? Perhaps Semin has turned it around but based on what he has shown through out his career I tend to doubt that.
But at least he has a useless stat like +/- in his favor. My guess is Brouwer wasn;t too much of a detriment while winning the Cup, right around the time Semin would have be doing his normal disappearing act.

I think Brouwer's comments speak more to problems in Washington as opposed to Semin. What kind of organization would allow its players to believe that talking trash about former players or coaches is even remotely acceptable?
|
Since when is the truth trash-talking? I've more or less given up watching NHL player interviews because the chances of them saying anything that isn't a vapid and meaningless cliche is vanishingly small.

Trash-talking is more often than not the truth.
You may enjoy hearing these kind of comments from players but I feel it's in poor taste and shows a lack of class/sportsmanship on Brouwer's part. I'd much rather hear something like "Semin and Boudreau aren't here anymore so who cares?. We need to worry about the team we have now and start winning some hockey games".
That's just my opinion.

But he didn't really say anything that bad about either guys.
He said Semin didn't show up some games and Boudreau was to lax. That is what is considered a lack of class now? Seems fairly tame and accurate to me.

The lack of class isn't in the severity of the statements.
I would lose a ton of respect for Iginla if he made similar comments about Huselius and/or Keenan when they left town. It wouldn't matter to me if its the truth or if he was asked the question... just as Regehr's comments about Keenan were in very poor taste as well IMO.

Brouwer is a coward anyway. He likes to talk.
Talking about how Bourque is lucky the Flames don't play the Caps again and then he does absolutely nothing when he sees Bourque in a Habs uniform a couple weeks later.
Just watches some other scrub get tuned by Rene.

Tim Brent also added to Eric Stall's comments about Semin, saying perceptions about Semin are wrong indeed. He tweeted yesterday Tim Brent @Brenter37 :
Quote:
Just read Troy Brouwer's comments about Semin. I can say on behalf of his teammates that we love having him here, and he has been a big part of our success so far with his consistent play and work ethic. NOT only his scoring ability. I hope he sticks it to them
|
Eric Stall on Semin as well:
Quote:
"I knew he had a ton of skill, obviously, I'd seen him for a lot of years in Washington and he scored a lot of goals against our team, but, a lot of stuff was said about him that, for me, I wasn't going to judge or be opinionated on it until I knew him and met him and got to play with him," the Carolina Hurricanes captain said.
And the early returns have been overwhelmingly positive.
"He has been nothing but great," said Staal. "He's been a great teammate for everyone in this room and the type of guy who competes in practice and in games and that's all you can ask for."

That is another guy that has played with him for 17 games and has no idea how Semin acted during his time in Washington.
I don't think anyone is saying that Semin has been lazy or taken games off in Carolina but that he did that in Washington and the Brent and Staal quotes do nothing to disprove that.

If I'm the Caps I would kill to go back to the Boudreau days right about now.
You're not winning games anymore, but hey, at least you can be held "accountable" when you lose now. Semin's laughing from atop the SE division.

Brouwer says the Caps are doing well without them.
You can add delusional to the list of Brouwer's qualities.

Brouwer, at least, has held the Cup...he had been on a team that worked hard for the prize.
