He has been great for the Flames, for the city, for Canada; as a player and ambassador. I do think though for the good of everyone it is time that both he and the Flames move on. It is not about loyalty it is about business.
Nobody owes anybody anything, it's like leasing a car. Now Jarome has a chance to get PAID I hope he cashes in and the Flames need to focus on finding younger players and signing better contracts.

Love seeing Iginla score I think he is about to break out - and how about being tied for team lead with assists.

I totally agree. For what you are likely to get in return its not worth it. Likley get a late first round pick. 50-50 if they ever make it. Jarome means so much to the organization. People say they owe it to him to trade him so he can try and win a cup. Maybe that is not all that important to him. maybe he feels it would not mean much to win a cup with a bunch of guys he has only known for 2 months. Seriously, I don't think that is what he is all about. Guys with his class are rare in the NHL. It would be such a shame to lose him.

What is an Iginla hat trick? Is it 2 goals, an assist and a fight?

He is great, what do you think he is worth on the trade market?

We would get a Pat Faloon and Fata with our luck.

I have an eerie feeling that a deal involving Iginla would go down as being catastrophic in the annals of history for this team. There's always that off-chance that he'd return a decent prospect or two and a pick that may or may not pan out, but I personally don't support seeing him shipped off elsewhere in the hopes that he can win a cup and that we can significantly improve this organization's future. I also have the feeling that both he and the organization (hopefully) feel the same way.
I'd eat crow if something positive came out of such a deal, but I just can't get excited about the idea of watching a Flames team without Iginla. I know it's a business in the end, and the primary goal of that business is to win, but one of the goals is to also retain classy talent like Iggy that will act as a magnet for the team and the game. We've been lucky to have him, and if the team can continue trying to improve while keeping him in a Flames jersey, I'm all for it.

I have often wondered if he works out too hard in the off-season. He seems drained for 15-20 games at the start of each year.

He's my favourite player of all time but I still like the Flames more than I like him and I personally think he should be traded to benefit the team. I hope he doesn't come back next year because I wantn this team to go in a new direction. He has a lot to offer a team, I just don't think we are that team. I will cheer for the Flames but I will also.

Flames fans said the same thing about Fleury, MacInnis, Niuwendyk, Roberts, even Otto. "We can't trade those players as we need them to retire as a Flame for the sake of the franchise". Yet we traded every one of those players and the franchise was fine. We no longer are getting value for what we are paying Iginla. If he wasn't Jerome Iginla, based on his play he'd be a 4th liner at best. It's time the organization moved him while he still has some trade value, because he's losing value rapidly.

None of those players represented the Flames in the same way as Iginla. The only real comparable is Fleury. He stuck with the Flames through the hard times and he carried the team on his shoulders when the rest of the early-90s players left for greener pastures. The way he acted as and after he left will always tarnish that iconic status, unfortunately.
As far as the other players you mention, none have meant as much to the team as Iggy.
Nieuwendyk played 9 seasons with the Flames
Roberts played 10 seasons
Otto played 11
MacInnis played 12
Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla is in his SEVENTEENTH season with the Flames. He is the all time leading scorer by 200 points.
His legacy is cemented as the biggest playing contributor to our franchise. I was at the Dome when he got his first point in his first playoff game, assisting on a Theo Fleury goal in '96. Having seen his development into the unplayable beast of a power forward that led us to within an inch of the Cup, nothing would give me more joy than to see him retire a Flame. Scratch that, ONE thing would give me more joy: if he retired a Flame with a Stanley Cup ring on his finger. Even if he's only a role playing Lanny MacDonald-esque leader for the 2018 Stanley Cup winning Flames, I'll be overjoyed.
The trade return we would get from the 35-year-old Iginla would do nothing to help the team win now, and any picks and prospects are a huge gamble. A trade would deflate the franchise & I guarantee the fan base will dwindle. Don't get me wrong; I was a Flames fan at 2-years old & I'll be a Flames fan when Jarome moves on. It will be a sad day for the franchise if he moves on to another team.
