Friedman at HNIC just said that the newest proposal is grouped as follows
Conference A
Anaheim
Calgary
Edmonton
Los Angeles
Phoenix
San Jose
Vancouver
Conference B
Chicago
Colorado
Dallas
Minnesota
Nashville
St. Louis
Winnipeg
Conference C
Boston
Buffalo
Detroit
Florida
Montreal
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
Toronto
Conference D
Carolina
Columbus
New Jersey
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington
Players are hung-up on the idea of something to balance out PO qualifying in uneven conferences, a wildcard of some kind.

Top 6 from each side in, best records overall for the remaining 4 spots.

It's a sensible, straightforward compromise. So of course I'm skeptical it will happen.

The biggest problem to me is when the league expands to 32, which I think is within the next 3-5 years
the most likely places seem to be
2nd GTA team
QC
Seattle
the 7 team conferences are mostly in the 'west'
so when you make them all 8 and either 1 (or possibly both) of the new teams are in the East than you are in the same situation you are in now, and a team has to change conferences (i.e a Columbus). Not exactly helping to build rivalries, and probably leading to a pissed off organization.
I wish they would just wait until it gets to 32 and split it then

Perhaps the league has no plans to expand or relocate any teams.

At first I was totally against unbalanced conferences, now that I see we are in a 7 team conference, I really think it is the only way to go.

With the westernmost conferences featuring 7 teams, perhaps this indicates that Seattle and KC are the favoured expansion sites.

As long as we don't have to keep seeing Minnesota 6 times a year, I'll be happy.

Are we a "Minnesota" team? Do people give away their tickets when we come to town?

I don't understand why the league is so intent on four conferences when there are 30 teams. If the plan is to go to 32, then include that in your proposal. Otherwise, just stick with what you are doing for a couple more years until read to expand and swap Winnipeg and Columbus. It isn't that complicated.

I hate that the Florida teams are in with the northeast teams.

This one does make more sense with so many teams wanting to be in the East.. might as well give them the extra ones to make Detroit and Columbus happy. Nashville gets screwed but they are relatively new enough that they their rivalries aren't that entrenched.

We aren't in the Avs conference anymore?
Then give us O'Reilly FFS.

Perhaps the Western teams are getting compensated for our extra travel by being in the 7 team conferences?
In any case, I am looking forward to the re-alignment, this is how rivalries are made....

How I would solve it
Conference A
Anaheim
Calgary
Colorado
Los Angeles
Phoenix
San Jose
Vancouver
Conference B
Chicago
Columbus
Dallas
Minnesota
Nashville
St. Louis
Winnipeg
Conference C
Boston
Buffalo
Detroit
Montreal
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
Toronto
Conference D
Carolina
New Jersey
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington
I've solved it, I moved Columbus to the West because they'll lose anywhere they play anyways. Then I relegated the Oilers (Their uberplayers weren't good enough to win in the AHL) and the Panthers to the ECHL where they belong.

I think they should put the new confrences together in such a way that the could sell the names of the confrencess. Have two leagues the could sell the names to as well (for Wildcard/Crossover purposes, but also so they could sell more names).
Center Ice League
NBC Confrence
Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
New York
Brooklynn
New Jersey
Washington
Versus Confrence
Columbus
Carolina
Tampa Bay
Florida
Nashville
St Louis
Dallas
(Kansas) eventually
TSN League
CBC Confrencee
Montreal
Ottawa
Toronto
Detroit
Chicago
Minnesota
Winipeg
(Quebec/GTA) eventually
Sportsnet Confrence
Calgary
Edmonton
Vancouver
Los Angeles
San Jose
Anahiem
Colordao
Phoenix/Seattle

that is pretty clever way to break it down by networks. Sportnet Pacific would try to get 2 Vancouver teams if it was possible. Having LA, SJ, ANA. is agreeable to them because it would guarantee Vancouver games being on all the time for the late time slots.

I even thought the Versus / NBC Sports was a good grouping, its like the nobody cares group for the nobody cares network.
Sorry to the Stl fans, you have been a good franchise for a long time yours just in the wrong geographic region.
