I am resigned to the fact the Lions are going to go with a DE. Spent a 1st round pick on DL 2 of the last 3 years so it only makes sense in Lions land to go for another DL this year.

It isn't like the Lions secondary has been a joke for the last 20-30 years so no need to address that and continually address areas of strength on the team instead.

I actually saw one mock (which has about 0 chance of happening) where Joeckel fell to the Lions which would be a dream come true. But I doubt that KC passes on him and would be floored if he doesn't got to Philly if there.

Yeah, the Eagles would be out of their minds to pass on Joeckel if he lands at four. I think you're right that KC takes him. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Eagles trade back if they can find a partner. From what I'm reading, none of the DBs are really worthy of a top 10 pick. I think the Eagles probably target Joeckely, Loutlelei, and Dion Jordan. Althought who knows now with Star's heart condition. If those guys are gone, I see them trading down and maybe going after Warmack or Geno Smith.

I think Smith's 40 time really boosted his stock, so he could even be an option at 4 as well.

Gotta figure that releasing Jenkins is a money thing and not a performance thing. Thought he was alright but the line as a whole was awful last year. Lots of DT's available in the draft. I really see the Eagles trading down to get another second.

Not too sure what to think of the Nhamdi situation. Not sure he is physical enough to play safety, tackling was never his strong suit.

The thing is though with the amount of passing in the NFL now, and the way teams scheme on defence, every position on the line is important. The good rushers, don't just live on the edge anymore, the can be schemed to take advantage of a weakness anywhere on the line. The Saints have spent on guards, likely because their line needs to prevent that pocket from caving, and give Brees lanes so he can make those 20-25 yard throws down the middle. In a league where teams are routinely throwing 40 times a game, I think you take the best players and toss out that traditional thought about this being too high to take this position.

Tom Brady, twice the player as Flacco, half the cost.

Quote:
Tom Brady took a huge step today to ensure he'll retire a Patriot, agreeing to a three-year contract extension that will keep him under center for New England through the 2017 season, when he will be 40 years old.

For the second time in his illustrious career, Brady is doing something players in this day and age simply do not do: As he did in 2005, Brady, a league source told SI.com, is signing a contract with New England that will pay him significantly less money than the market will bear, in large part to help the Patriots stay competitive for the next five seasons.

Amazingly, according to the source, the deal is for an eye-poppingly conservative $27 million, which is less than half his worth by any measure.

The extension will pay Brady a $3 million signing bonus immediately, in addition to salaries of $7 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. Brady told Sports Illustrated five years ago he wanted to play until he was 40, at least, and this will accomplish that. He turns 40 on Aug. 3, 2017.

Easy to do when you have already banked over 100 million in your career....but no question he left a bunch of dough on the table to stay a Pat for life.

Will be hard for Tom to catch Favre in wins (his win % might be tops though):

Ya, Brady is leaving a lot of money on the table and could have gotten a lot more out of the Pats. Having accumulated a lot of coin over the years is worth mentioning, but the same is equally true of Brees and Manning.

Manning for sure, but Brees just got his first huge deal on this last contract.

Brady has been pulling in huge coin for many years now.

Any Titans fans, or anyone else, heard anything about how Marc Mariani's recovery is going? I'm hoping that injury was not career ending.

This is the most recent update I could find, from the good ol' Havre Daily News.

I had to venture into the cesspool that is EGriz.com, so you'd better appreciate it!

Not really, this moves the salary cap hit but Brady actually will make more money over the next two years then he would have under his existing deal. This is a lot like the cap circumvention deals in the NHL, it spreads out the cap hit.

Also,

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl.../?sct=uk_wr_a1

3. Future money. Brady has signed two long-term deals since he won his three Super Bowls -- in 2005 and 2010. The first was for six years and $60 million, about 30 percent below market for franchise quarterbacks at the time. The Patriots handed him a $5.3 million bonus in the middle of the contract, in 2007. In the sixth year of that first contract, New England added a four-year, $72-million extension, market value for a premier player, that would run through 2014. That's the contract that was extended Monday. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio speculated Monday that there's no way Brady will ever play the last three years of the deal without a bump in salary. Florio could be right -- in fact, it's likely that he is, if he plays like Tom Brady -- but I don't believe it's certain. History with Brady shows they might adjust his deal. However, they're not likely to revolutionize it.

I'm sold on Josh Boyce out of TCU. The knock on him going into the combine was that he was a bit undersized and not very fast. The guy then proceeds to run a sub 4.4 40 and ace the 3-cone drill, while putting up 22 on the bench press. I think whoever gets him in the later rounds is getting a steal.
