I wonder if he's being sheltered & eased into playing centre in this system, starting with limited minutes on the 4th line. I think he looks very promising offensively, but he seems pretty useless defensively.

There's no denying that the flames are playing a very entertaining brand of hockey this season. My expectations from them are low, as long as they entertain me i am happy.

The Flames deserve full credit for coming back in dramatic fashion. That was one of the absolute worst reff'd games I have seen in quite some time. That was so clearly tilted in PHX's favor even the linesman were guilty of unusual calls especially in the face off dots.
Several Flames players were noticeably frustrated how the face offs were being called and at least 10 face offs that Flames won the official immediately waved a redo. Not once did the linesman call for a redo on PHX. Coyote players were even allowed to move into the circle before the puck was dropped multiple times.
The NHL does everything they can to maintain PHX as a playoff team. It is truly pathetic.
The fans at the Dome were like rabid dogs wanting to get a piece of the officials.

Yes, you are allowed to have an opinion. Yes, you don't have to accept mediocrity. The Flames have sucked for a long time & that's not new news to most here. It's a sport and people like to feel good after a win. Is it so wrong?
Awaits Moons "I didn't say this" "find me an exact quote blah blah blah". I'm just glad watching a bunch of grown men do their job doesn't seem to affect me in the same way as you lol

I for one was at a buddy's 30th birthday party on Saturday night and watched the game on TV and did not grab my phone to post on CP after the game and on Sunday I was at the game with a client and we went out for a late dinner after the game and I did not let the client know that I had to go on CP to post, so my apologies for missing out on the fun.
As for the games, I thought the following:
1) Stajan was a beast both nights, he is the only center that has a chance to win a faceoff which is huge for this team. He will never be a true number one center, but he is playing now like a good second line center and is earning his 3.5 million dollar salary. The way he is currently playing, if he kept it up until next December, I would not have a problem re-signing him to a similar contract;
2) I thought Bouw was good in both games, he is definitely flourishing under Hartley. He is another guy I would keep long term, as his age and his style of play could make him effective well into his mid to late 30's;
3) Wideman is autrocious 5 on 5, great on the PP, but the guy really needs sheltered minutes otherwise.;
4) Nice to see Iginla get a couple, hopefully that gets him going in terms of goal production. Both goals were probably not in the top 400 Iginla goals in terms of asthetics, but a goal is a goal;
5) 2nd line scoring is key for the Flames, if Cammy can center a productive second line that bodes well for the team in the future;
6) Tanguay needs to learn how to shoot the puck and do it more often.;
7) I thought Sven looked good out there, once Cervenka is in decent game shape a third line of Sven Cervenka and Hudler could do some real damage;
8) Too bad the Flames did not try the veteran backup thing sooner. This is exactly what Kipper has always needed, a guy who can play 20 games a season and give you a chance to win those games.
Flames need to do well on the two game road trip, as the next 5 after that are difficult games. If they are under .500 at the halfway mark, I sure hope management is smart enough to do the odds on any team going 17-7 down the stretch or better to make the playoffs.

Stajan has been very good. Nice that Hartley is deploying the only C on the team with the top line.

Bouw is definitely jumping in to the play and creating, which is nice, because he has the skating ability to get back. He is putting a lot more pucks on net as well.
Defensively, rough game last night, he had trouble at various times holding the blue line, and clearing his own zone, and was on for 3 goals against. One he kicks in. Ok, fluky, these things happen. The second, he doesn't even appear to notice as Torres blows past him. And on Phoenix's 4th, he turns the puck over at the half boards, loses the battle for position in front of the net, and it's his guy Johnson that scores.
That guy on the radio last night was talking about the first line being a problem as they were outplayed by the Phoenix 4th line, and saying that Bouw had a really good game.
For all of the talk about how he is on for so many GA because he is playing against the best players, it's not like Crosby, Malkin and Neal scored against his pairing last night, and he was not an innocent bystander on any of the 3.
Someone in the GT said he won a board battle on Iggy's goal. He did astutely jump forward to grab the loose puck and feed it in to the corner. But the battle was Tanguay running a pick on his guy to leave the puck free for Bouw. Credit to him for putting it in a place where Iggy could take over from there.
I guess I look for different things from a defenseman than some people. He played a lot of minutes, ended up +1 and got 5 shots, so that was good for third star.

One thing I really liked last night even though we were unable to capitalize was our PP.
Sustained Pressure, Lots of Chances, and great movement to open passing lanes.
I also like them using Bouwmeester in the "Niedermeyer" role on the PP where he would drift into the slot for high deflections.

man, talk about a mood swing game as a fan, but very happy to see the team get a W. Terrific way to end a pretty bad (personally speaking) sunday.
stajan has been amazing, as has macdonald.
i don't like comeau, had to throw that in. He's actually played well in his past few games, i just don't like him on a line wiht skilled players.
