With that great logic we can also say that Rene Bourque is as valuable given his 10 points and 5 goals.

Personally I haven't been impressed with Iginla's play over the past few seasons, and at this point I would take Schenn over Iginla.
I think he would be a great addition to Pittsburgh. I would be ecstatic if we got a 2013 1st rounder and Simon Despres for Iggy (maybe add a conditional second if he re-signs in Pittsburgh).

Fair enough. Certainly not trying to say that everyone is hating on Iginla. I too am realistic about his value. Just pointing out that he would be a valuable asset for many teams. He is known to be a clutch player, a finisher, a consistent scorer, who, despite his start to the season, could still score 20+ goals this year.
we will all wait and see, but if he is moved, there should be a decent return. I'd say a first round pick and a roster player is a minimum.
Teams that think they have a shot at the cup often overpay for veteran scorers.

Would you trade Iginla for Schenn straight up right now?

For those who are saying we could get Schenn straight up for Iggy, it's like saying we should trade Sven for Knuble. Knuble has more points then Sven and has managed to stay healthy all year.....

Kudos to those posters suggesting this trade. This way, the Flames finally get the centre they've coveted for so long to pair with Iginla.
Oh. Wait...

Nope...good players do though.
Its beyond ludicrous to think that any return on Iginla would somehow have a reflection on what has happened thus far just this season.
If thats the case, then after tonights game, he is demanding 2 1sts and a blue chipper and a roster player...which is just as assinine as suggesting he wouldnt garner more than one young player.

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
Even though I know it's irrational, I'm one of those fans that will be devasted if I have to see Jarome Iginla in a different jersey. It would be a sad day, and I think it'd take a little bit to care about the Flames again after that.
I know, I know, cheer for the logo on the front, not the name on the back. But in the end, sports are just that, sports, and people can get enjoyment out of sports for different reasons.
And a big reason I followed hockey in the dark years for the Flames was for one guy that made the 45 televised Flames games a year worth tuning into. A guy who played his heart out every single night, knowing in the back of his mind that even just making the playoffs was a pipe dream. A guy who dominated the league playing a certain style and then had to totally re-adjust when the NHL decided to change the game, but still put up elite numbers.
A guy who takes so much **** in the city he's been so loyal to, but still steps in front of the media with a smile and promises better, which he is in turn **** on again for. A guy who is expected to play like 2003 Iginla, year after year by delusional fans who question his heart and desire instead of his age.
...and as I type this out after taking a break from the game, I hear Kerr yell out "Jarome Iginla scores!!!!!!!" from the other room, his second of the night.
Again, I know it's a litte irrational on my part, but for me personally, Jarome Iginla is the Flames, and I always make a point of not even looking at trade proposals, as it's depressing.
It'll be a sad day if the greatest Flame of all time decides or is asked to finish his career elsewhere, and an even sadder day if public opinion from Flames fans is one of the triggers.
The man deserves better than the **** he takes from this city, but that's just my opinion.

And what does a conveniently timed post add except some "I told you so". I didn't say Iginla had no value, I suggested his value isn't on par with two cheaper kids who are helping their teams out more now and in the future.

So post a counter or don't post at all. This site needs to get back to discussion instead on snipes and not so clever one liners

If you were Holmgren you would need a raise to help pay for the many months you would be unemployed after making that deal.

It's not like transplant bumped a year old thread. He bumped a thread from about the third thread to the first. It's not an I told you so post, he's referencing a game, that just happened. I have little doubt if Iginla sucked it up tonight you or someone else wouldn't have done the same thing.
I mean...

But his post that wouldn't have even come unless Iginla had a great game tonight is fine?

Of course it's fine. Why wouldn't it be fine? Is it only fine when people bump threads to point out again why guys like butler or comeau suck? He was making a point, not one I even entirely agree with but at least it had substance

Iginla won't be traded. the Flames will hover around the 8th seed long enough that by the deadline Feaster won't risk trading him because of this "win now" BS. deadline passes, Iginla remains a Flame, and Calgary does their traditional April tankjob to finish 9th or 10th. rinse and repeat

Substance in terms of characters yes. In terms of relevance to my post, not really. I said nowhere that Iginla has no value, in fact I think he does. What I said what that his value wasn't Schenn which I think is an incredibly reasonable opinion.
I should have just left his post alone and not replied. The timing of it just bothered me.

Even if they don't trade him, he won't re-sign. I have a strong feeling this is the last stretch for Iginla as a Flame. He's going to want to win before his career is over and its still very unlikely to be here. Iginla knows that, I think he's giving it this season to see what happens.
