Should Iginla get dealt and draft picks are involved, the players ultimately obtained with those picks will be so closely scrutinized and analyzed in Calgary that they will almost certainly end up as busts.

I don't know, I just think picks are too risky, especially the way our drafting record has been for the past many years.

Exactly, We'd just piss those picks away unless it's in the top 5.

well if we ended up with 2-3 first rounders, we might be ablel to trade multiple firsts for a higher end first rounder. Prospects could be as risky because maybe a player is only doing so well in the minors because they are drafted by a certain team and are motivated to be on that team. Coming to the Flames might not be as exciting for some prospects as everyone thinks.

Brayden Schenn for Jarome Iginla

Maybe help them with a bad contract...

This buffoon Panaccio was speculating this earlier in the year too but doesn't want to give up anything decent.
Nothing to see here.

I am cynical about his value, hardly a 'hater.'

Not a huge fan if what Boston is likely willing to give. Simmons, Laughton, and a 1st is a decent return. Flip that 1st + for RoR and the rebuild is looking good

I want to go on record and say the Flames will not get ROR. The Av's won't trade him in the division and he's not what this team needs going forward. He'd be an amazing second line center but if we trade Iggy, a rebuild will start and he's not the guy you build around for the future.
More importantly, lets not turn this into something about ROR. He has his own thread already!

Iginla at 7 million cap hit would get a 1st and a top 6 player
If the Flames retained up to 3.5 of his cap hit,
I wonder what Iginla at 3.5 million would garner........
Let the bidding war begin!

I really don't see Philly happening.. They've had tough luck with injuries on the forward front but are really hard pressed for reliable d men right now. That crazy bid they made for Weber this off-season and the disastrous trade for Luke Schenn is my main point.
My money is on Pittsburgh or Boston... Crosby and Iggy played with great chemistry 3 years ago and Pittsburgh could really use a great winger besides Kunitz to compliment Crosby. Don't ask me what we would get back though..
Boston has the cap space and no doubt would be a good fit too. They have plenty of youth to give up thanks to Brian Burke and plenty of cap space thanks to the Tim Thomas trade..

that's what I think too (though it's not my money)... if you're going to trade him, retaining some of his salary would make him extremely attractive

Maybe if he had a few years left. I don't see retaining some of his salary for a couple months being worth all that much more.

Hey now, I like Ruby on Rails as much as the next guy... but I think we could at least get Python/Django and PHP/Cake too. I mean, let's not sell ourselves short here.

Draft Pick
|
I have a feeling many around here will be sorely disappointed if/when Iggy is traded. Great player for sure, but the window to get a return mentioned in this thread (Laughton, Simmonds, a 1st) is long gone. He's an UFA with big salary and currently has a 1/9/10 line. That return from Philly is not happening.

Way less pressure if the pieces we get back are draft picks IMO.. If we get a roster player back, the pressure is immediate and I think your theory is bang on. If we get a couple of picks back, I think the fan-base accepts it as a rebuild and the pressure is a bit more gradual like it is with Baertschi.

I agree, this is not going to happen. Expect Iginla to re-sign here in May.

IMO, if I was a GM in the NHL, at this time, I would not even entertain trading ANYTHING for Iggy.
His play has not warrented any significant return. If he had put on an impressive showing so far this season, and the team was still in the basement, then maybe he would be worth something.
But not right now guys, Stajan is worth more than Iggy to this team.

King also said Darryl should have no fear of losing his job.'
This to me is the most useless argument made by fans of sports. It's a business, how many of these big businesses are telling the average joe every exact detail of what they are going to do?
What's he supposed to say, "The offers are starting to pour in for Iggy, let's have a fan vote on which one to choose?"
