I remember there was a name the team contest. My friend and I suggested Calgary Comets and drew a fireball logo (maybe a bit too much like the Redwings logo). I think there was a C in a red fireball, with flames trailing to the right.

Turns out comets aren't fireballs, but blocks of ice.

lol.

I remember when I first saw the Flames logo and thought, yea that's the most obvious logo ever. But in retrospect that is what works, the ones friends and I tried to come up with were way over-thinking kind of stuff.

I wonder what Jose Canseco has to say about that.

Calgary Flames Playoff Chances

Lost to Los Angeles 1-3, playoff odds down 9.1 to 10.9%

Yikes.

Don't think our playoff chances are good when it's easier to go on a 3 game losing streak then a 3 game winning

Will be yet another year the Flames fail to make the Playoffs. No way they will make it this year. Zero team chemistry this year. Zero!

Well, we are 2 losses away from 30th in the league. I wonder if Iginla gets traded if that happens

If the flames finish 30'th do feaster and king get fired?

After all their grandstanding about how this is a playoff team and we are going to be competitive, I think a 30'th place finish indicates that management does not know what they are doing.

In all fairness to them losing 2 of our top prospects as well as our starting goalie isn't going to help a perennial 9th place team. Imagine that happening to any team that isn't Boston or Chicago

Right back to the GM who failed to secure a capable backup.

He's kind of stuck on a sinking ship with too many holes too plug. No number one centre, not enough grit/toughness, no backup. He's really in a bad spot, every hole he plugs will create 2 more. We now have way more skill than last year but now we are not very tough and our goalie sucks.

God lord man. You think Backlund is going to save this team?

But if he would have done about things differently, a lot of those holes would have been filled.

Again, I think blaming the GM at this point is moot because we're not sure if ownership is hampering his abilities. If he wanted to do an overhaul or at least trade Iggy and was told he can't than it's not his fault. If he isn't because he thinks this team has a shot at the playoffs than he's an idiot.

Ottawa seems to manage just fine so far missing its 2 best NHL players - not prospects - Alfie picks it up - same can't be said for the vets around here

There is still time. 23-7-3. Possibility v. Probability. Would be great to see this style of hockey, played at a .742 clip.

Not going to make the playoffs this year. Too far behind and not good enough. You beat one team and the other teams also gain ground. Plus three point games make it so difficult to actually get there. There's still good pieces on this team, but it isn't gelling at all. Goaltending needs to improve big time. Look at Ottawa getting Anderson and Anaheim getting Fasth. Better goaltending and they're playing a ton better.

Going to be very tough to make the playoffs. This weekend is pretty much the season for the flames. They play the 7th and 8th seed. They win both games they are back in it and the season continues. They lose both games and the season is over. No chance they can come back from 7 points down and leap frog all those teams considering all the 3 point games that will happen.

Thats exactly it, the job he took. If the ship is sinking its his job to mend it. He accepted the offer knowing the hull had a breach and that he must mend it to stay afloat.

Well he might have accepted it knowing the ship was sinking but the owners were down in the bar with their fingers in their ears singing 'I cant hear you, the SS Iggy is unsinkable, enough of this talk of iceburgs now go get us a cup' in which case how much effort can you expect him to put into it

So who's in for a chorus of 'nearer my God to thee'?
