It doesn't matter, he is 21 and in his first year of pro. Slide rule wouldn't apply anymore.

I would guess, his yellow jersey will be removed as early as today.

Yay!

Rob Kerr@SNRobKerr

@SvenBaertschi on the ice for practice with a regular jersey, by that I think it's safe to assume he's been cleared for contact.

Yeaaaaa! Does anyone have any updates on Backlund/Kipper? I know Backs is still about a month away but just wanted to know if anyone know's whether he's on schedule.

Also shouldn't Kip be back soon?

Sorry if this is off-topic too lazy to find/create a new thread on this.

Not that it matters since it looks like he is good to go, but the age doesn't matter as much as when they sign and playing less then the 10 NHL games. There was something written back before the season started (It was Kent Wilson over at flamesnation) and it mentioned that Sven and his contract was eligible to slide. Tatar from the Redwings has had his contract slide twice. There is some very specific criteria that you have to meet, which Sven did.

Anyways, good to see him back. He is a fun player to watch.

Wonderful news.

There's something weird about Baertschi on first games back after an injury throughout his career. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he put up something like a 4-point night in Portland after his injury, then after his whiplash incident in Abby he came back and played guns-a-blazin'. Let's see how he does on perhaps Saturday...

He's 20, and a late 20 at that.

I believe his contract could slide because he was 18 when he signed it, but the way things are worded is a little confusing: http://www.capgeek.com/faq/how-does-...ract-slide.php

Then, the lockout adds an extra level of confusion because they set the slide limit at 6 games this year. With the 5 games he played last season, he's already played 9 NHL games.

Either way, it's clear that the Flames have no intention of keeping him out of the line-up, so it's all really academic at this point.

Saw Backlund at the offleash dogpark off of Deerfoot and Southland on Sunday. He said the knee is coming along. Small but noticeable limp on the right side.

I would expect to see him back skating in about another couple weeks, mid-late March for a return to the lineup with no setbacks.

It was mentioned in another thread, but Sven was on a line with Comeau and Hudler in practice today.

As getbak pointed out, Cervenka didn't practice, so it's possible that he just had the day off and will take Comeau's place on that line in the game. Either way, it sounds like Sven should be in the lineup tomorrow.

Holy carp. Does that mean I'll finally get my Tanguay-Cammy-Iginla, Baertschi-Cervenka-Hudler top two?

Not quite. Tanguay-Stajan-Iginla. Cammalleri was with Glencross and Stempniak.

So a Coma, Huds and Sven line? Has Sven been practicing face-offs?

I wonder who's moving to play in the middle of the second line with Horak's departure? Is it time we actually play our natural center as a center?

Baertschi Cervenka Hudler

Or is he not ready for that yet?..

It will be nice to see Sven getting enough games in to begin to get in a groove here and be impactful for the team. I think once he breaks onto the scoresheet he'll be there pretty consistently after. He's just gotta get a feel of the game at this level again. In mid-season form we all saw that he could put up goals here. It was pretty unfair to have him on the 4th line before his injury.

And Stajan with Tangs and Iggy actually doesn't sound like too bad of a plan.

A legit center there, at last.

He played well last year with all the injuries, once healthy he got tossed back down a couple lines.
