A little curious, but do they have the cap to stay above the Floor after they send Dipietro down?

Yikes!
Kevin Gibson @TSNResearch
Since DiPietro signed his 15 year contract. 247 games missed (injury), 175 games played

Dipietro must open each of his paystubs and just start to laugh maniacally for about twelve straight minutes, followed by intermitant sobbing and wimpering for another six.
Fantastic situation for him and his family for their financial security. Terrible fate for an athlete with competative drive.

an NHL player sent to the AHL still counts against the cap, minus the first $900K

In the new CBA a cap hit over $375+league minimum salary stays on the books when put in the AHL.
So Dipietro's caphit of $4.5 - $0.9 = $3.6 m stays on the book.
I do wonder though if the under the old CBA, the Isles would send him to the AHL, cause under the old rules his cap hit disappears and then they may have issue reaching the floor.

Wait, this isn't supposed to happen. I thought the Isles picked up all the scrubs off waivers? Can they claim thier own waivered player? lol

Just think about the fact that in 2000 the Islanders had Luongo, Jokinen, Chara on the roster and could have used that pick on Heatley or Gaborik. I don't recall ever hearing about Milbury having substance abuse issues so to this day I still have no idea how to explain what he and the organization was thinking that summer day in Calgary.

I was there as well but considering the Flames didn't exactly hit a home run or even a base hit that day I can't say it was a proud day although Stoll turned out to be a decent pick.

I haven't followed his career (or the Isles) particularly closely, but if he ends up being bought out in the summer is he a salvageable back-up somewhere in the NHL?

Feel bad for the guy, remember well when he was playing great and got the contract but then just ended with a career full of injuries. These are things that nobody really knows how they will play out.
Contract was pretty bad though, although completely different compared to for example Redden/Gomez where they just sucked at playing after getting a big deal.

Ironic no?
He had serious hip and knee injuries just as he was breaking into the league and posting good numbers. We'll never know what kind of player he could have been. Hip and knee injuries are death for a butterfly goaltender.

In a way I feel really bad for DiPietro because he didn't realize all of his potential.
On the other hand, I don't quite so bad because he is set for life.

Its not that hes bad. Quite the opposite. Its that he never plays because hes always injured and hes being paid a fortune.

is it just me, or would it be funny if he was injured 10 minutes before he was to be placed on waivers....
