Lots of interesting stuff IMO.

City size came up.

Ocean basically said that you can make a very deep, rich simulation on a modest city size to begin with and then expand the city size later. You can't make a simplistic simulation on a large map size initially and then make the simulation better later. That was the trade off they had to make and it was the one they believed in.

Funny anecdote:

Apparently when they first put boats into the game there was some code mixed up so that boats replaced some cars and buses, so for example Sims would commute to work in massive oil tanker ships down the street.

Click on the spoiler tag. Just do it.

Spoiler!

ALSO: WILL WRIGHT!!!

The final bit they did was Will Wright talking to Ocean Quigley. It was very cool.

Will Wright: "It does feel like a very fundamental shift away from a sort of spreadsheet experience, to a sort of terrarium, with thousands of little creatures living their lives inside of this box."

Sorry man, looks like the code expired. Didn't last long!

At this particular moment it looks like the best deal is actually on Origin where you get a $20 off coupon for a future purchase if you pre-order.

Probably will be another deal pop up before release I would imagine.

Got these from SimCity Reddit, dev from Maxis confirmed they are accurate. The three major (16 city) regions:

DISCOVERY DELTA

TITAN GORGE

VIRIDIAN WOODS

Looks pretty cool. Will be interesting to see how the great works...work.

Also looks like every plot has some sort of resource for you to exploit no matter where you end up.

Yellow is railroads and white is highways I am guessing? Seems that only 4 plots and one great work are connected together. So you're not going to get tourists from the other side of the map?

Might be other way around, Yellow = Highway, White = Railroad.

Yellow are highways, white are railroads.

In large regions cities are grouped roughly in 3-6 city groupings.

That said, you have to remember that if any two cities touch the same body of water they can connect with each other via ferries!

(For example, Cotton Bend and Sawyer's Crossing on Discovery Delta can connect to each other via ferry despite being very far apart.)

Any given city can have connections with 6 other cities.

After watching the Oil city demo, do you have to build your Oil HQ in the same City you are mining your oil or could it be in more of a mega city within the region. Would make sense to have the one HQ for the region as well as the marketing office.

Doesnt make alot of sense to put a 50 story skyscraper in the middle of a bunch of refineries.

I think you're talking about the zoning, which is done more based along road access now, rather than just painting a giant area green and hoping for the best

I'm not really sure. We will have to see when the game comes out but I could imagine you could put it in an adjacent city.

Ocean Quigley@oceanquigley
@Nehkara Yes, the Oil HQ has to be in the city that's pumping oil. The HQ unlocks things region-wide though.

Some of those city plots look like a real challenge.
