Keep:
Baertschi
Backlund
Brodie
1 of (Gio/Bouw/Wideman)
1 of (Hudler/Tanguay)

Move anyone else for the right price...

As for the talk of playing with a minor league team next year. There is always free agency to fill a couple of the gaps, as the Flames would then have a ton of cap space.

semantics, and perhaps overly emotional, but two of the best players in franchise history do not belong on a 'dump' list, or any list that includes Blake Comeau

also, playmaker putting Hudler on a dump list? wtf

Keep: Baertschi, Brodie, Wideman, Hudler, Backlund, Gaudreau

Trade immediately: Bouwmeester or Giordano (whichever gets a better return)

Trade closer to the deadline: Iginla, Kiprusoff

Anybody else is available if a good offer comes in.

I think if we are looking to get a top pick we need to keep stajan. Having Stajan as our best natural center gives us a much higher chance for Mackinnon.

Couldn't agree more. Stempniak is the first guy I would move. Playing well, cheap, doesn't have a NTC and when Baertschi is back we need room on one of the top 3 lines for him. We are loaded at wing and that is the only position we are loaded at, which is the least valuable position to be loaded at. Trading Lee making room for Sven might not hurt our top 3 lines but give us decent cap space next summer for a center

The 2nd move is trading Iggy if he wants to go. If we get a decent return on him then we have huge cap flexibilty, more than likely getting a top 5 pick and always have the options to sign him in the off season.

If Iggy decides to resign as long as it is reasonable then I would say dump Cams. If we can't move him then I would look at trying to move Tanguay. If that is a no go then consider moving Kipper.

In the end our only strength as a team is on the wing and in goal. But Kipper is 36 now and we aren't good enough. We need to take advantage of a shorten season and a slow start. Columbus is the only team right now that we have no chance finishing lower than. Florida, Washington, Buffalo, NYI all are good enough that if we trade a couple guys, give Backlund and Baertschi decent minutes we could easily finish 2nd last. If we can add a few 2nds, add a couple decent prospects through trade, draft a top 5 pick and make a run at some UFA's we will look alot better next season. If we miss out on UFA's because fear of a rebuild as long as we don't trade everyone we could be in decent shape next year. If not trade again next season. I don't see the need to trade 10 guys in one year, but we need to move at least 2 this year and have to consider one core guy

Only players worth keeping are:
Beartschi
Backlund
Horak
Brodie
Hudler
Cervenka
Bouwmeester (If he would even want too)
Jones (Hes actually a CENTRE)

Please, Please, Please, admit defeat. We as Flames fans have been tricked long enough. Please part ways with Iggy, Cammy, GLENX, Kipper, Gio, Tanguay,

Iginla/Cammy/Taguay are still fine as top six forwards. Problem is they are second line WINGERS. Never mind the fact they aren't good enough to play first line minutes, none of them are natural centres.

Your not gonna win with these guys, not as your go-to scorers. I like most Flames fans, love these guys but they are simply not good enough anymore. Its the harsh reality, but its the truth. Please, trade them for assets.

Glencross- is NOT a top six forward, 25 other teams in the NHL would put him in their bottom six. He has put up points the last few years because of his gracious ice time (due to our limited depth) but its time to admit he is what he is. He's not a top six forward, hes horrific in our zone and is not a player we need to be "investing" in or depending on.

The same can be said for Gio, hes good. Yes, but is he a top pairing d man. Not a chance, marginal second pairing d man but really not a guy again that you want to depend on a shut down defensman.

Kipper is still a warrior, without a doubt hes still a premier starting tender in this league, unfortunately we are not winning anytime soon. No sense in playing him, or riding him out, "hoping" we can "sneak in" to the play offs.

You have some decent pieces in

Beartschi, Backlund (If he could stay healthy and is resigned), Horak, Brodie, Jones, Hudler (If he would want to stay) and Cervenka

I would keep guys like Stempniak as a role player, as hes a guy that easily fits in the top or bottom six. Stajan would be fine too if he would just compete on a regular basis, unfortunately his contract is about 2 mill too much.

Its a real deep draft this year, if we could get 1-2 extra first round picks this year....our rebuild might not be as long as expected.

Hopefully players like Jankowski, Grandlund, Gaudreau and ramo develop into full time NHLers.....

Regardless, this team REALLY needs to go in a different direction. Please trade what assets we have try something new.

as long as we are finally clear its NOT the coaches fault anymore and that its finally on the players to perform and buy in.

Hartley s a good coach and I am so tired of the coaching carousel .....ive seen only one other poster mention this and I think its important ......I just wish Flames ownership realizes at some point this is true

Dream Scenario:

Deal:
Kipper, Tanguay, Cammy, Iginla, Stempniak, Gio, Sarich, Stajan

Get a couple first round picks out of there somehow.

Chicago- Kipper and Sarich for Leddy and Crawford
Pittsburgh- Iggy for Bennett, 1st and Despres
Detroit- Gio for 1st rounder
Toronto- Tanguay and Smith for 1st

Everyone else for whatever....

As this is a dream scenario I say we finish last and Toronto misses the playoffs and than they win the lottery giving us 1st and 2nd overall picks! And than Iggy decides screw Pitts im coming back to Calgary and someone brings Getzlaf.

Drouin- Mackinnon- Baetschi
Hudler- Getzlaf- Iggy
Glencross- Backlund- Bennett
4th line scrubs

Jbo-Leddy
Brodie-Wideman
Despres-Scrub

Ramo
Crawford

Hudler is a 29 year old meh player that does little to nothing if not scoring and has a checkered history in terms of attitude in the past. Not sure why he would be a sure thing to keep especially since this is likely to take ~3 years when he will be 32 and not getting any better.

He had a decent start in terms of getting points for the Flames but he is far from a player that you build your team around.

Keep:

Brodie,
Backlund,
Baertschi,
Cervenka,
Iggy, if he wants to stay and signs a good extension, if not then trade
Kipper, if he wants to stay next year
Sarich,
Wideman,
Stajan, playing well and can be traded next year if need be
Stempniak, see stajan
Horak
Glencross,
Tangs, I'd trade him but no team would want him
Begin, see Tanguay
Hudler,
Smith,
Bouma
Mac

Listen to offers and pull the trigger if a good offer is made:
JayBo,
Jackman,
Cammy,
Gio,

Dump:
Comeau,
Babchuk,
Butler,
Jones

That gives us at minimal 15 or so players from this years team so that the Flames can try for playoffs next year if they don't get in this year. No player on the Flames is untouchable so obviously if a good offer is made management should be willing to move anyone who doesn't have a NTC.

I think that might be the case for a guy like Glencross that may have taken a lesser deal to be close to home but for Hudler and Wideman that came here because of their over priced deals the agents and players may be happy to get shipped off a sinking ship/rebuilding team.

With the money freed up by dumping those 4 big contracts, I would go balls to the wall after Getzlaf, Perry, Horton, Filpulla, Clarkson, Weiss. One would think with 23 million in additional cap space (assuming you move Tanguay, Iginla, Kipper and Cammy) you could sign two of those guys (hopefully)
I don't know, I think you can only go hard after the elite guys - Getzlaf and Perry. They can earn their money. Kind of revolting when you figure that Perry will be making a couple dollars more than Cammy, but 2x the player.

I think Clarkson might go the way of a Ryan Malone, although he does have some very good intangables.

Tanguay - Backlund - Baertschi
Glencross - Horak - Stempniak
Begin - Jones - Jackman

Bouw - Wideman
Brodie - Smith
Sarich - Butler

Trade:
Iginla - Need to get a 1st round pick and blue chipper
Cammy - Try to get a 1st or really good prospect
Gio - Try get a 1st or good prospect (not the way hes playing now = / )
Kipper - Try get another 1st

Dump:
Comeau

It would never happen but if Feaster turned those guys all into 1st rounders and we had 5 picks in a deep draft we could be in good shape in 2-3 years.

Draft:
4th overall - Jonathan Drouin (LW/C)
21st overall - Josh Morrisey (D)
24th overall - Morgan Klimchuk (C/LW)
28th overall - Valentin Zykov (RW)
30th overall - Nicolas Petan (C)

Drouin joins us next year to play with Baertschi while the heat get to rock a line of

Klimchuk - Petan - Zykov

Morrisey - Wotherspoon

Things would be looking up!

2 years down the road we could be looking at:

Baertschi - Drouin - Gaudreau
Klimchuk - Petan - Zykov
Cervenka - Backlund - Hudler
Ferland - Jones - Bouma

Bouw - Brodie
Wideman Morrisey
Wotherspoon - Breen

It really sucks not having a second this year

Wotherspoon could play in the AHL.

Others would have to be junior or NHL though.
