The Ducks have named Brian Burke to a part-time professional scouting position within the organization.

Kind of a surprise, but I guess not many teams are seeking a GM right now. Glad he is out of T.O

There's a good chance after the Toronto circus that all he wants to do is sit back, watch some hockey, and enjoy himself. Take a break from GMing, and then return to it in a few years.

Naw, I think he's said he'd rather jump right into another GM job right away. It just hasn't come up yet, but I'm sure he'll be a GM sooner than later.

Burke is American right? Maybe with all the young American prospects we have up and coming, it would intrigue him enough if the Flames persued it.... Can only hope.

Yup, and the worst thing of a GM or coach to do if they want to be re-hired is to sit idle. If you're not working in this buisness, then you're likely going to get forgotten.

He'll definitely be a GM in the near future again. I think Washington is a real possibility if McPhee is let go at the end of the year.

Any idea if the Ducks are going to take on the rest of his contract from the Leafs, or just part of it?

He will likely get another shot but he would be wise to choose his next job more carefully. Toronto and his brash personality was destined to fail.

between Feaster and Burke, i'd take Burke

i'd rather have someone else entirely (i think the Blue Jackets scored with Jarmo Kekalainen), but i have zero faith in Feaster to rebuild this team

Love the Puck Daddy headline - "Brian Burke re-joins Anaheim Ducks as scout, leaves Leafs scrambling for a new consultant"

Why is that? Regehr trade probably couldve been a bit better, but Bourque for Cammy, Erixon for Horak/Granlund/Worherspoon, reacquiring and 2nd rounder and still able to draft the player they wanted, Sven and Gaudreau drafting looks real real good, Wideman and Hudler signings are doing great. That's a lot more positives than minor gaffes like Modin for a 7th rounder, PLL for a 5th rounder. I don't trust Jay on his own which is why I'm happy he's surrounded himself with hockey smart people. I think he'll do good making a smooth transition from the old vets to the new era. Backlund, Brodie, Sven, Wideman, Hudler, Gaudreau, etc. is a solid group to continue to add to.

tend to agree with you. The only thing is, is that Feaster said himself he has no interest in running the team if they had to re-build. I like what Feaster has done so far and would hope he at least gets one more full season to right this sinking ship.

I honestly would like Feaster to stay on long term only to see his handy work at the drafts come to fruition. would be a shame if they were right about Jankowski only to have moved on before they reaped the rewards of their labour. And not just Jankowski but Gaudreau Granlund Wotherspoon.

I also fear another GM would come in and waste these assets and ruin the foundation theyve tried building so far.

Here is a quote from Burke that should provide some colour as to what may have happened:

"Every job I've ever take, I've told the owner 'Look, there are only two hands on the steering wheel if you hire me. They're both mine. If I ever look down and there's a third hand on the steering wheel, you've got a problem. So unless you're willing to give that much autonomy to me, I'll help you find someone else. Not everyone needs that much autonomy. I need to be in charge. You can ride in the front and get out and push if we get stuck, if you want, but you don't touch that steering wheel.'"

Suppose he negotiated that autonomy up front. Then suppose the Luongo rumours have validity... as soon as the CBA is closing, he is out the door. If ownership does not want that deal, then there is your third hand on the wheel...

Bourque for Cammy looks like a wash right now, but we will have to wait and see what happens with Ramo and Holland I guess.

Erixon deal looks slightly better for Calgary at the moment but again way to early to say. He was handcuffed a bit so seemed to do best he could.

Sven and Gaudreau again way too early to say on those.

The FA sigings look okay 15 games in but those are long term deals for way too much money so they better look great now because at the end of those deals they are likely to look awful.

Overall he has come in and at best maintained the team and the poor level it was it and likely made the team a little worse overall with little positives looking at the future.

Feaster has failed to address the obvious glaring deficiencies at center.

He has also made the team smaller and softer.

Time to bring in a guy like Brian Burke to reverse this trend and start building a team properly.

Even if the ownership was entertaining the idea of ditching Feaster, do you really think King and Edwards would ever agree to give Burke the anatomy he demands? I would personally say hell friggen no. Burke's worried about a third hand on the wheel, he'd have about five hands on the wheel if he ever decided to come here.

If they thought that Burke was the best man for the job there is no reason to think that they wouldn't give him that autonomy (or anatomy if that is what he is after).
