I lived in Stockholm for 5 months for an externship. Food ended up being double my budget for it. Oh and a pint of beer is rediculous.

For those wondering. MOMS is value added tax. Can be as high as 25% on junk food and other items.

Yes and yes. It is admittedly a little strange to be working in a religion faculty and to feel totally comfortable wearing my Iron Maiden, NIN, and Rammstein concert T's to work. No one bats an eye.

We are actually going skiing this weekend. Our neighbours—like all Norwegian's it seems—own a cabin in the mountains and have invited us up. My wife and 9-year-old just got themselves geared up with skis, and my oldest, youngest and myself will snowboard. We live in the fourth largest city in Norway, and can literally ski anywhere in town when there is enough snow. This city is a cyclist's paradise in the summer months, and in the winter, all those cycling paths serve as ski trails.

I haven't been nearly as struck by prolific blondeness as I have been by how tall and fit all Norwegian women seem to be. My advice is that if you can, you should marry a Viking.

I have bought a grand total of two cases of beer since we arrived. Honestly, for the cost, it is not even all that good.

I dearly miss beer.

What's the of cost of beer or spirits compared to here? And food for that matter?

Canada is pretty bad for expensive liquor, so it must be bad

I can vouch for the marrying a viking part.

If anyone is interested in Lefse the German House near Confederation golf course carries it from the Swedish Bakery near Edmonton

https://www.edelweissimports.com/

Very tasty with melted butter, white sugar, and cinnamon.

Do they have any Krumakaka (spelling) in Norway?

My wife's parents grew up in Norwegian households, so we always had home-made lefse every Christmas in Canada. The great thing here is that we can buy it pre-packaged at the grocery store, and it is not half bad. The kids will frequently have it with brown sugar and butter in the mornings before school.
My wife-to-be has Norwegian roots and her family likes lefse with white sugar. I grew up having it with brown sugar which is sooo much better.

It sounds like Norway shares an affinity with Calgary Puck; at least as far as watching for FPAG:

Quote:
For most of the time, the only sound came from the fire. Ms. Hatlevoll’s face never appeared on screen, but occasionally her hands could be seen putting logs in the fireplace, or cooking sausages and marshmallows on sticks.

“I couldn’t go to bed because I was so excited,” a viewer called niesa36 said on the Dagbladet newspaper Web site. “When will they add new logs? Just before I managed to tear myself away, they must have opened the flue a little, because just then the flames shot a little higher.

“I’m not being ironic,” the viewer continued. “For some reason, this broadcast was very calming and very exciting at the same time.”
