They were bodied off of just about every puck.

A ton of neutral zone turnovers were because Calgary was small and Los Angeles was big.

One reason why the Flames don't look like they care much might be because they know that this team is not going to go anywhere. Especially the veterans have just been through this dance, over and over and over.

It's not happening this year. Maybe next year, propably not. Propably they suck next year too.

No matter what kind of a super athlete you are and no matter how much you are paid, it's bound to get you at some point.

Which is actually a very good reason to get rid of guys like Iginla. Those that have been through too many wasted seasons with this team.

It really had nothing to do with hits. It was mostly board battles.

LA was the bigger, faster, tougher team and they imposed their will on us. Flames had no answer for the physicality and I made that comment in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Darryl Sutter came in here and embarrassed the Flames with a big tough team that is strong down the middle. Exactly what he preached would win hockey games when he was here.

Lol we got dominated physically, little love taps along the boards don't make us physical. We lost every single board battle, we couldnt hold on to the puck at all. Its not always just size, the Flames are just a mentally weak, and physically weak team.

This thread has a "rabble rabble" feel to it.

We complain that we have no skill during Sutter's tenure and play too defensive of hockey.

We then complain that we aren't big or tough enough and that our defensive play isn't good enough.

Bottom line we're patching over rot in the walls. Getting bigger AND more skilled means getting highly valued players. We chose to go skilled so we got the cast offs, smaller one dimensional guys like Hudler, Tanguay, Cammalleri and Cervenka. You want big skill? You need to draft them.

You want commitment to defensive hockey while being exciting then you need a 3rd line with jam. We have none of that.

Glencross specifically looks like a guy who's just going for a skate most nights.

Are there seriously fans who are surprised at how horrible the Flames are? I think virtually every single knowledgeable hockey observer felt that this was a horrible hockey team and they are horrible. It would be like if John Davidson was shocked that Columbus sucked.

As for the excuse that it would be different if Kipper was in, I am wondering what game we lost that Kipper would have won

1) 5-1 loss to the Canucks
2) 2-1 SO loss to the Wild
3) 5-2 loss to St. Louis
4) 4-0 loss to Phoenix
5) 3-1 loss to LA

Even with Kipper this team is still 5-7-3 in my opinion.

Wasn't a great game, but not a big deal IMO. Kipper being injured is really hurting the team. Brodie's goal was a beauty and Iggy with a great assist...

Funny to see the "blow it up" calls again...The way we are going we don't even have to blow it up, we're right on track to finish low and draft high. Wake up sports fans: the rebuild is happening before your eyes but without the fanfare of the Oilers rebuild. What we need now is patience, intelligence, and long-term vision, not more knee-jerk patchwork deals that will hopefully squeak us into a playoff spot.

Can't wait to watch the rebuild where we hold on to older assets rather then attempt to move them for pieces that can help in the future, continue to add marginal players to hold us at 10th place and draft in the oh so great 10-13th pick overall.

So you call drafting Mckinnon 1st over and chucking him on a line with Iginla and Tanguay next year a rebuild?

This is the oiler way. They thought they where good, and kept all the assets they had, and kept adding yet tanking.

We need to sell off while we can, and get something in return to help speed up the rebuild, while icing a team that can actually compete.

This team is poorly constructed as the Darryl Sutter 20 goal scorer all stars he put out, and everyone though each player would bounce back and score 20 goals.

This team sucks, and it needs to be destroyed and rebuilt.

Moon, you are way to pessimistic, this team is nowhere near a 10th place club, regardless of the moves they will make. This team literally is the reincarnation of the 09/10 Oilers, they tried for a couple years to compete still, had a coach that got more wins out of them than they deserved, changed horses and now will be picking top 5 regardless of what they do.

They way Kipper was playing prior to injury there is no doubt he would have pitched 5 shutouts in a row and we would have been on a 5 game winning streak right now.

If me, Moon, and EddyBeers aka Bob Goodenow lol, are all on the same page you know this team is in deep trouble.

You are assuming that we would have won the shoot out in Phoenix though, seems doubtful. That would have been the second time in Kipper's career he got a shutout and a loss in the same game.

I think the likes of Taylor, Irving and McDonald have actually played better in goal than Kiprusoff was playing before his injury, or at least no worse.

That's not what I'm suggesting. I'm just stating the obvious -- how much more can we blow up one of the worst teams in the league? I agree that we suck, by the way.

The Oilers model was not what you have described; they actually cleaned house and thought they could simply draft their way to the top. And they still suck, not because they don't have talent, but because they don't have the right mix of players.

How many picks do we have in the first 2 rounds next draft? 1?

I don't think you know what a rebuild is.

What we're doing right now...is not rebuilding. It's just called sucking. With no end in sight.

As bad as we are, is it even possible to be worse than Columbus?
