I think Glencross and Giordano are both "Sutter guys" who are having problems playing a more talent-oriented system that Hartley has put in place.

He took a discount to stay in exchange for a NMC, I don't think he would waive.

Even though he's inconsistent he's still great value for his contract. And young enough to be part of the go-forward plan.

I would keep Kipper and the entire defense and trade every forward over 30.
So that's Cammellari, Glencross, Iginla, Tanguay.. and who else?

Yeah Glencross is a tough one to figure out.. Seems like an attitude problem (which you don't need on a rebuild), so we might be able to get something decent for him for a proven 20-30 goal score.

|
Valid point.
If it's a trade/dump right now move, his value is high. I think by the deadline that value will decline... and I'd probably rather have him on the team in a 3rd line support role for another year or two than the 3rd round pick he'll garner at the deadline.
That said, if someone wants him for more than that, they can have him.

Fine line between having an attitude problem and a little fire in the belly.
I'm not sure what side of that Glencross falls on but at least he cares.

Keep: (in no particular order)
- Hudler - Recent UFA signee and playing well
- Wideman - Same as Hudler
- Brodie - Emerging top 4 dman
- Baertschi - Best prospect
- Backlund - Really needs to overcome the injuries and become a top 6 forward
- Horak - Needs to play 3rd line 2 way wing
- Cervenka - Good chemistry with Hudler
- Stajan - New captain
Dump:
- Giordano - Top 4 dman; return = Rattie + Cole from Blues
- Bow - Having his best season, sell high; return = Coutrier + 1st from Philly
- Iggy - Sell the captain, bring him back in the off-season; return = Saad + Beach + 1st from Hawks
- Cammy - Low value, some team looking for scoring; return = 2nd round pick from Kings
- Glencross - Decent 2-way player; return = McBain + 1st from Canes
- Tanguay - Small cap hit; return = Bishop from Sens
- Comeau - Minors
- Jackman - Ask if Sharks still want him; return = 5th round pick, otherwise waived
- Stempniak - return = 4th round pick
- Sarich - return = 4th round pick
- Babchuk/Begin/Butler/Comeau/Jackman/Smith - Waivers, 7th round picks, if not keep for salary floor
- Kipper - He can turn it around = Nino from Isles
New lineup with everyone healthy
Hudler-Stajan-Cerevenka
Saad-Backlund-Baertschi
Horak-Coutrier-Nino
Aliu-Rinehart-Nemisz
Wideman-Brodie
Cole-Butler
Smith-Babchuk
Bishop
Irving
Other assets added - Rattie, Beach, 1st (Phi), 1st (Chi), 1st (Car), 2nd (LA), multiple late picks
Our own pick shouldn't be any worse then what it is right now.

On the fence about Glencross, mostly because his contract is a good one.

Yeah, maybe that's it, apathy. Just seems like he doesn't care much, makes soooo many stupid brainless passes and giveaways..

Try to Trade:
- Stajan
- Bow

You still need to have some decent players even if you go in a re-build direction. Tanguay/Stempniak are both guys I would hang on to even with a re-build.
|
I agree with "Jiri" you got to keep some of the players. That said every single player or prospect could be had for the right price.
I would put Butler on the get rid of list. Stempniak i could go either way. He is playing great right now and could have some value on the trade front.
I agree that you keep Tangs and Glencross. Glencross needs to know that he is a 3rd line gritty player that can get some goals. Thats what his game is best suited for. I think if they can add another 3rd line gritty player and play Glencross beside him that he will fall in line.

I think he’s a “feel” player who goes when his confidence is high but can get down on himself easily.,
Frankly one of the main problems with the Flames over the past few years has been having too many guys like that: Tanguay, Stempniak, Cammy, Iginla, Glencross are all too streaky – when they are feeling it they are great, when they are not they are useless.
But at least Glencross is paid like one, the others are paid at a level where they should be bringing it on a nightly basis (Stempniak aside)

While I agree with you, my concern would be where he plays. He plays his best when he isn't worried about scoring goals, rather just going out and being hard to play against. If the Flames dump the likes of Iginla and Cammalleri yet keep Glencross, were would the coach be tempted to use Glencross? Likely on the 1st line. Yes, that is subjective to what the Flames get in return for the outbound players, but it is still tempting for the coach to play Glencross on the 1st line on a regular basis due to his experience. I think that is setting him up to fail and that is when we see the soft and frustrated Glencross.

I am on the Fence with trading Cammy.
He only returned Rene Bourque last season and his value likely hasn't increased at all.
I would keep him until his UFA season and hope for a bounce back.
At that time he is either a go to scorer for this team if he recovers, or will return more as a playoff rental for some team on the back of his two clutch playoff performances in Montreal.

Glencross definitely plays better on the Stajan/Stempniak 3rd line, over the first line with Iggy and Tanguay or anyone..
