Bouw, Iggy, Kipper probably have the most value in that order and we should definitely move the first 2

I think Feaster should shop basically everyone and hoard a ton of assets heading into the draft where I suspect there will be a ton of players available. Teams will be shedding cap and would take picks/prospects. In addition the free agent market will be full of bought out players that may have some value on a better contract.

If the flames blew it up this year I think there is a reasonable chance they could compete again next year

iginla, giordano, bouwmeester, glencross, tanguay, stajan, butler.

If we don't make trades at the deadline, and don't have at least 2 first round picks this draft, i will be a disappointed (MORE disappointed) flames fan.

I think right now JayBow does. A lot of teams are looking for a top tier defensman and he's playing like one. I think they should be calling the Sens and telling them it's not too late to take on JayBow to save their season.

If we traded JayBow and kept part of his salary, the sens could have him at a decent price and we could probably get more out of them. Zibanijad would be an ideal pick up from that team.....I'd go Zibanijad and their 2nd + a prospect or something for JayBow and almost anything else

I'd then do the same kind of deal with Cammy and the Leafs. We can pay part of his salary but we want a good prospect and a pick.

Iggy to the Pens or Flyers (maybe start a bidding war between them)
Kipper to the Caps when he's ready
Giordano to the Kings

You'd trade Iginla because of age.

Bouwmeester may fetch the most value but he is still young. If you trade him who will anchor the blueline? Do we really want to an Edmonton Oilers blueline?

You would have to return a decent defense man back.

I think Tanguay and Cammellari have to go. They've offered nothing all year.

Question with Bouwmeester, would he ever resign with the Flames... personally I doubt it. His contract is nearly completion.

Makes him the perfect asset to move.

This is something I don't get. Does it really matter who anchors our blue line??? If we could get Lindstrom in his prime to anchor our blue line, we'd still be a crappy team. Trade JayBow to get assets back and try to develop a couple players. A horrible team with 1 or 2 great players is still going to be a horrible team but if you traded those 2 great players you might actually become better in the long run. We're terrible with him and without him we're going to be..........terribler?

I think Giordano would have the most value. He has the best contract by far and teams probably recognize that his mediocre play this year is due to an increased role.

Bouwmeester and Iginla would probably draw interest from a lot of teams if management decides to move them. Glencross isn't going anywhere, Tanguay probably wouldn't draw much interest if any, and Kipper's injury increases the chance that he stays/retires next season.

It's still a question of whether the Flames decide to retool or not. Ownership truly is 100 percent commited to winning now, but they are quickly becoming the only people that feel that way.

If I had my way the Flames would move:

1. Comeau and Jones.... for anything
2. One of Butler/Babchuk for a pick
3. One or two of JBo/Iggy/Gio/Kipper for the best return offered

Then go aggresively after the best college FA's, continue drafting the way they have been, and throw some money around in free agency.

Bouwmeester plays 10 good games and all of a sudden teams are crawling over each other to pay him 6.8 million.....

At the deadline I think Iginla can get a lot. Way more then we will be expecting. Teams will get into a bidding war. Boston, Philly, Pitts, Van, Chicago, SJ would all love a guy like Iginla, and also would not want their competition to get him.

IF Bouwmeester continues to play well, hopefully we can ship him out at the deadline as well.

In the spirit of "buy low, sell high" Giordano and Glencross.

Nashville gave up a first rounder for Paul Gaustad. The Kings gave up a first for Dustin Penner the year before.

IF, you make moves at the dead line you can easily get big returns for guys like Bouwmeester and Cammalleri.

If you can't move Bouwmeester, maybe consider moving Giordano. Bouwmeester's girlfriend or wife is from Calgary and he has roots here. He may not want to leave. You may want to move Gio instead.

If you can go into the draft with 2-3 first rounders including our own and add to Gudreau, Jankowski, Wotherspoon, and Bartschi then we have something to really build on.

I think you consider moving Kipper too. Especially with Ramo coming in next year **hopefully**

I'd also rather keep JBo and try to deal Gio based on how they've played this year. Problem in that is that Gio will fetch you less in a trade and has a full NMC if I remember correctly.

I KEEP Iginla because of his legacy.

Nobody wants Bouwmeester. If someone did, he would be gone.

Tanguay and Cammellari offer alot. Two of the best forwards. I agree though, they have to go.

Bouwmeester may be jumping in more, but is still tops in the league for team GA. His defense is still a problem.

Butler last year had a crappy year, now this year Gio is pretty bad.

For as much time as they spend together 5 on 5, Gio's Corsi is almost even where Bouw's is very negative.

The last few years, the pairing of Sarich plus mobile defender worked.

Cool usage charts here:

Being terribler would be worse. Have to start somewhere and learn from someone.

Look up north, they have young talent but nobody to learn from, so they'll be bad a long time. I don't think the Oilers make the playoffs this decade. What they are doing is totally wrong.

I think Brodie learns a lot from Bouwmeester and Wideman. If Brodie was anchoring the top pair and best defenseman on the team, he'd be destroyed for life.

The team has to have some balance of youth, experiences and class. Problem with the Flames is they have no youth yet. Maybe in a few years.

Anyone over 30 should be gone now.

But Bouwmeester, he's right on that line.. I would keep him to move the youth forward. I would keep everyone on defense actually, it's the forwards who have failed this team.

I think more realistically we will have an Ottawa type rebuild.

Keep Iginla, Bartschi, Tanguay, Wideman, Hudler, Brodie, maybe Backlund

Subtract Kiprusoff, Cammy, Comeau, Stajan, one of Bouw/Gio, Stempniak (he should stay TBQH), Smith, Begin, maybe Glencross

Add Ramo, Reinhart, MacKinnon/Barkov/Shinkaruk (assuming the slide continues), maybe Wotherspoon.

Flames might have to take some chances on guys like Hickey as well.

I see the general consensus is to keep Cervenka and ship out Iggy.

Against LA, the only goal came when Cervenka takes a puck off the face, and Iggy replaces him on that line. Luckily Iggy didn't wait for Cervenka to reach the bench before he hopped on. He was cruising in there in an excruciatingly slow fashion. Intrigued by Cervenka's skill but with his overall game rather unimpressed so far.

The Sens are one of the best management teams in getting value for their spending..... link

They would never take on Bouwmeester's 6.8M for next years lower cap.

If Bouwmeester goes anywhere the Flames will be taking back someone else's bad contract (potential buyout).

Philly would basically be forced to dump Briere to make room for Bouwmeester.

Pittsburgh has absolutely no room for Bouwmeester next year other than giving up one of their high paid, high production guys .....

PS the Flames are in salary cap jail next year so I don't think they will be keeping 2-3M of Bouwmeester salary to get rid of him....

I kind of agree... I wouldn't put Brodie on the top pairing. Wideman and maybe Butler or Sarich or someone else. I just think JayBow has so much trade value that you have to consider it. He'll make the team even better by turning into more assets

True. But I like defense assets more than offense assets.

Down the pipe we have many forwards. Baetschi, Gaudreau, Grandlund etccc. Only one defenseman right? Wotherspoon.

So I would trade the the 30 year olds to get decent forwards and a decent defenseman to play on the 3rd pair.

Bouw/Gio
Wideman/Brodie
Smith/new D

I think they would suffice. The Czech line would be the first line then the youth round out the rest. It might suck for this year but I'd rather have sucky forwards and some more draft picks then sucky defense.

Giordano is likely overvalued by the trade market. I'd move him.
