Just in reference to how soft this team is and basically gets bullied by tougher teams; can you imagine if this current group took on the 2005-06 Flames? Between the '06 versions of Regehr, Phaneuf & Hamrlik, the current team would get ground into dust. The '06 Tony Amonte would've fit in well with this group though..

I was wondering how Aliu was doing. Why not give him a shot.

PMM? Any insight on Aliu?

Kings won 40 out of the 62 faceoffs.... When the Flames play teams that have a really solid core down the middle they are in trouble.....

Flames are simply to small of a team that has a really tough time playng the gritting tight checking games......

tough game to watch.

However, i am actually ok with it. Flames aren't a good team, and finally they may actually drop enough where we can finally see management take steps to change the path.

what would have been worse, is a tired LA team came in and the flames won, and everyone felt that optimism that the flames maybe good enough to compete (yet half their wins were only against teams playing back to back or 3 in 4).

Finally, the 2013 version of hte flames are "Keeping it Real". we finally may get the draft pick this roster deserves.

You mean having no centers over 6 foot and 180 lbs and our only physical D in Sarich in the pressbox means we aren't going to be physical. That's crazy talk

Thank God for the shortened season, the quicker this ends the better. MAKE SOME DAMN CHANGES, stockpile draft picks and prospects, everyone should be available for the right price.

A couple of things that caught my eye in this thread.

The first was a comment or two about the Flames being better on paper. I'd like to see the paper that those people are reading because quite frankly this is what should have been expected based on the "real" paper. The team lacks a #1 center. They pretty much lack a #3 center as well. At least what you would typically have as that #3 center. Iginla has had a wonderful career and he can still do damage but gone are the days where he is a true first line threat the opposition has to put forth extra effort to stop each and every night. On the blueline they truly do have the easiest to play against 30 minute D-man in the league. The only consistent compliment you can give to Bouwmeester is that he sure is a pretty skater. After that it is a mixture of #4s and lower. It's not a good team on paper or the ice.

The second are the Iginla deserved better comments. I think he got pretty much what he deserves. Why does he deserve a better effort from his teammates on the night he puts forth a good effort after all the time the situation is reversed? The Flames play similar to how his on-ice leadership and effort has been the last handful of years....inconsistent.

Serious question but what has Aliu done to deserve it...I am not up to date but last I checked he was a regular healthy scratch in Abby.

Some of the best news this season is the play of Bouwmeester. He now has significant value if time comes to trade him.
The Bouw thing has to do with a system change that caters more to his style. However, what the poster was saying was that Brent wasnt the problem. Doesnt matter who the coach is, we have seen the same inconsitent effort through Keenan, Sutter and now Hartley. Time to change the core.

Well if there's a season to just suck the right way and get a high pick and hopefully push management/ownership to make some core changes then this is the season to do it...

The only reason I feel bad for the team sucking is for Bob Hartley, I really like the guy and his communication to media and players, his sense of family unity, his up-tempo style and I've seen much more offensive creativity and D-men jumping into the play, however team toughness and defensive zone obviously needs improvement, and it's on both the players and the coaching staff. Doesn't help though when Giordano can't handle the puck to save his life...

Sure but Hartley has to put his money where his mouth is. If he wants a grittier team, stop playing Comeau! What does Comeau bring? He can't score, he can't hit and he can't fight.

-No Kipper really shows what this team is made of, and how he masks most of our issues. As much as it sucks having him hurt, its a good thing that everyone finally gets to see what this team is really about

-Macdonald getting run...and no one doing #### all about. One of the most shameful displays of team ''unity'' I have ever seen. Man I miss the days of Regehr, Phaneuf and Vandermeer destroying other players in front of our net. It was pathetic watching Butler and Smith skate up, then put their heads down as Lewis skated away. Tanguay's quote said it best.
Quote:
”We’re not a team that’s got size, like that team. We’re not a team that’s got a whole of toughness, like that team.
Pretty pathetic if you ask me. I think their may have been maybe 5 total scrums this year. What happened to the team that was one of the toughest in the league?

-I will be very very upset if Feaster isn't allowed to sell off the team at the deadline. I get the feeling that he wanted to last year, but was vetoed at the end by ownership. Ownership better get their heads out of their asses and let him do his job.

-The Kings may be the defending champs, but they sure aren't playing like it. They are the worst 1st period team in the league...but play the Flames and suddenly you get the chance to turn that around. Typical Flames.

-The Flames used to be the toughest building in the league to play in for a couple seasons. Now we are the laughing stock. Flames routinely make backups looks like allstars, and opposing teams players always break out of their slumps against us. In our own home. Flames players should be ashamed of our home record.

I enjoy Hartley's attack system, but it's useless when everyone stands around and can't make a pass. I don't know if its the ice or lack of effort, but it sucks to watch. This shortened season is the best season for the wheels to fall off and get the rebuild going.

Comeau, while not being able to get points, does hit and was able to get the puck into the kings zone.

I'll give him that much...

I think Wideman would be a good choice, because ... in the game last night, after the Kings practiced their cycle for a solid 2 minutes, Ferraro said, Wideman came back to the bench asking everyone wtf was going on? Sounded like he was pissed that none of the Flames are communicating with each other. That sounds like a good candidate to be an asst. or more. Someone who is vocal and calls out the rest of the players.

I think darryl was sending a message, not just on that goalie run, but to the calgary ownership... Darryl Sutter hockey is still alive.

No other reason to put penner in (frequent healthy scratch) other than to impose his size against a small flames team

The fact that some fans think Comeau is a significant part of the problem is evidence of how fooled this crap about winning now has made people. This is a bad hockey team at almost every conceivable position, putting in Street or Jones or some other player in for Comeau will not change anything.

I said after Sunday's game that I either wanted to see a win streak or a losing streak after that win. No more of the float around .500 to keep hope while not really being in the race.

Looks like a losing streak might be this team's response.
