We got digital phone in February and we haven't had any problems so far. It's nice to have cable, phone and internet all on the same bill. For us the service has been excellent. The only drawback so far is we have call display and when we switched over it no longer shows many of the names. We called Shaw and they told us Telus are being jerks and won't give them the info. Eventually it's supposed to get better over time.

Cool, this is the sort of details I was looking for, those little things that may annoy people. My dad is looking into it, if he does it I probably will.. I know two people who have it, and when I talk to them it echo's..

Additionally, one reason I'm hesitant is I'm going to be getting a cell phone soon. I just figured I'd do telus.. since I have a land line.. however maybe now I'll try rogers...

I heard that it was good except for times when the internet ran slow and then depending on how far away you were talking there would be a delay on the line because it has to send the information over the itnernet. Well I more experienced this than heard it...I called Shaw about it and they constantly told me that it didn't happen and I was like but its happening right now you losers.

HAHA... Yeah I mentioned the echo to the customer service guy I talked to... he said "wow, that's so weird, I've never heard anything like that, interesting to hear that, because it's the first complaint I've ever had, interesting.. wow"
LOL, yeah sure..

We've had it for some time now. It's a little quirky....get the echos once in a while and has been down completely a couple times. The voice mail is kind of weird too sometimes. The light on the phone telling you if you have a message wont come on once you get close to a full mailbox. All things that didnt happen wih telus. But...whatever. Small annoyances considering the savings of long distance calling and the added options...call display, voice mail etc.

Had it since January with not a single issue. Call display works just fine, as does voicemail and all other features.

You heard wrong. Shaw Digital Phone does not travel over the internet. Slow internet will not affect the phone at all. This is NOT voip like vonage. Shaw has a dedicated system for the phone. I've had my internet go down, but not a hiccup with the phone. Get your facts straight before you speak next time.
This is all news to me... echo's on digital phone? Are you all sure you aren't thinking of other voip providers?

If you have a house alarm, they (the alarm company) will most likely make you get one of their wireless alarm systems (or at least ADT told me that's what they do). It's an extra $250 or something.....

If you don't use the unlimited long distance its a ripoff. Other VOIP providers offer a fully featured phone line for $19/month.

I have had the Shaw Phone for over a year and I have had a couple of outages but my TV and Internet went down as well. I called and they said the fibre was cut for my area. The second time they brought it down a week later to fix the fibre that they temp fixed. I have had echo a couple of times but it's not a regalur occurs by any means. I havn't noticed the call display not working. This service is great if you use long distance and now with 1000+ mins of free international long distanced for some places added on top it just got cheaper for me. I call the UK and now it included. The best thing I noiced after leaving Telus is now more stupid extra fees they all charge you. There is no contract so you can leave anytime which is nice if you want to try the service. I kept my phone number and Shaw called Telus to move my number over and I didn't have to even call Telus to cancell which I didn't expect. I have noticed a few problems with Voice Mail from time to time but I called in about this and they now of the problem and expect to have a fix in place soon. For the service being so new technologywise it work great. I guess every new service has bugs I know cable internet was like that a first too. If your TV and Internet service work great your phone service should work great too.

Keep in mind that with Shaw, although VoIP is the underlying technology; the infastructure is completely different from the run of the mill VoIP providers.
However I'm waiting for them to offer a service with less or no long distance. My Telus bill is only ~$28 per month; that's how little long distance I use. I mean, how many times can I call Winnipeg; it's not like anything new there ever happens.

Yes you do.
And yes, it is VOIP, and it is dependent on your internet connection. For me though, $55 vs $19 is a no brainer. $36 bucks to use a slightly more reliable infrastructure isn't even close to worth it. So far I've had zero outages for my Shaw internet.

It is not dependent on your internet connection. You don't even have to have shaw internet to use their phone service. Shaw has a completely independent infrastructure in place and it is not VOIP like vonage, etc.

Ok Look loser. I've used Shaw Digital phone. I've experienced the slowness. I used to call my friend in Kingston a lot last year but I gave up because it was too frustrating for me to use. Just because you havne't experienced this happening doesn't mean that it doesn't happen and is no right for an attack on me. And why do you completely run off on me and then immediately following pretend you're all nice and ask politely about this echo on other people's phones. Isn't that almost exactly what I said but you decided I'm stupid and they aren't. Grow up and learn to have a civil conversation. Disagreeing with someone does not give you the right to be rude about it. By the way Shaw does go over the internet....the IP network. Whether or not they use a different separate and managed server is irrelevent. They still use the internet. My point is that when there are a lot of people talking on the phone such as on long weekends and holidays like Christmas the phone does slow down and have a delay because there is so much information passing over the internet lines.
